We were lucky to catch up with King Kesha recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi King , thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The way my business started it’s like it happened overnight I was sitting down at my kitchen table me and a good friend of mine I told them I wanted to open up a salon my friend told me to write down everything that a salon needs because to see it is too believe it so I did n it’s like the next day ppl start calling me n donating things to me to get my salon within a month I was ready to open my first salon getting a salon open has it challenging but we all know as a business owner we have to be problem solver the day before my grand opening I wasn’t ready to open but I had clients coming to the salon me n my contractor stay there worked all night went we got done the sun was up n my first client was walking in the door actually opening a salon was fun to mee

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
The way I got started doing hair was by a good friend who told me I should go to school for hair I didn’t know anything about hair beside coloring my hair and teasing my drag queen friends wigs so I went to hair school and it’s like when I walked in the school the doors of heaven just opened up on my I instantly fell in love with hair it’s also saved my life because before doing hair I had tried so many things and it didn’t work out hair is the only thing that worked for me I been in the industry for 5 years doing natural hair and micro-links I love everything about natural hair my mission in doing hair is too teach and heal women when it come to there hair bc we as community need more knowledge about our hair and products to use my goal is too have women who are totally comfortable with there natural hair because all hair trends fade away but natural hair will always be around

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pivot moment for me was when I opened up my second salon within a year my clientele had grown so much that I literally had outgrown the space i was a lil nervous about opening up another salon because I felt like are my clients going to follow me I have to found more stylist etc but in fact when I opened up my second salon it’s like my clientele grew over night the phone was ringing non stop I keep reminding myself build it and they will come
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I’m in the process of making my own shampoos and conditioners it’s all natural hand made shampoos n conditioners it’s the first of it kind its a cold water shampoo and conditioners that really works its reverse scalp issues it’s super hydrating and moisturizing great for hair loss and light weight
