We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful King Joseph. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with King below.
King, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My life is a movie… Growing up in my city of New Orleans, it’s not easy for someone who has a dream. It’s so easy to get into trouble but hard to get out of. My family’s roots are deep in the city of New Orleans. By me becoming a mogul, it started because of my mother Marva May, she made clothes and was the best hustler in this world to me. My mother passed away this year on Mardi Gras Day. All of the films I’m about to make is all for her. I also have my own, self made, company called Action Cajun Snacks which consist of ice cream, potato chips, tea, and wine. Everyday somebody is asking me about my ice cream and chips because it’s that fire! I started this company last year and my products will be in stores soon. My film company, King Joseph Films, has started shooting a pilot called “Billy” and it is crazy good, I can’t wait until we’re done filming! After “Billy”, we start filming Grindin’ the Tv Show down here as well. I just made partners with two r&b artist, Sugar and Kendrick Bovia. Both singer and singwriters have beautiful voices. Plus, I enjoy investing. I’m an investor on Start Engine as well. My dreams on success…
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey as a filmmaker begin in 2005 after being inspired by two of my fellow coworkers Nigel Pickhart and John Collins. They collaborated and published a book titled “How to Burn Down a House” which made it to Good Morning America. Thereafter it motivated to write as well. Nigel guided me on the steps I had to take to write my first book, “Grindin”. In 2006 I turned it into a script. In 2007, John became the footwork for the project where he helped get my script to places like Universal and Warner Bros. and people like Spike Lee, 50 cent, Angelina Jolie, and Forest Whitaker. I guess, it wasn’t my time.. In 2011 me and my cousin Chase started shooting my first project “Murder 101”, still available to watch on YouTube. What sets me apart from others is my faith and beleif in my craft and in the success of those helping me push my dreams. What I’m proud of and elated to say is that I have real actors/actresses and artist who are dedicated to the project. I would like to share with my potential fans/followers to NEVER, EVER GIVE UP! No matter how long it takes for your dreams to come true, keep pushing.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes! I’m striving to have my tv show and future productions on different major networks.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I began working two jobs and I have investors who believe in my project. It’s crazy, how this got started from watching Nigel and John on television.
