We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful King Eva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with King below.
King, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was younger, I was always a magnet to music. Before I started making music, I was a student of the game. I would listen to Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, all the OG’s and try to figure out the craft. I knew the road was a tough one but all the greatest achievements come with a price. Music is something I genuinely love and carry a passion for. I knew I wanted my name to go down in history doing something that I loved and something I personally thought was dope. I never wanted to do anything forced or without love and fire. I can live with the repercussions of this decision because I’m living out my dreams.
King, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. I’ve always felt that I was born with an exceptional talent but where I push myself is to have a sickening work ethic. I consistently feel the need to be working on something or finishing up a project and growing my brand or music. Growing up in Northeast Los Angeles, there wasn’t a lot of motivation or opportunity around. I’ve always wanted to prove it was possible and go a step further, and help the next kid make it possible as well.
Since 2021, I’ve been a co-owner of multiple recording studios in Van Nuys, Downtown LA, North Hollywood, and Burbank. I’ve worked with hundreds of artists including Casey Veggies, Madeintyo, and 24hrs. I’ve traveled to the East Coast and worked in recording studios all the way out in New York. I’ve dropped multiple music projects along with visuals and merch to make those projects come to life. I’ve done all this and I still feel like my journey hasn’t even started yet. As I get ready to turn 27, I realize the fire that brought me to this point has only grown bigger and has so much more room to grow.
After releasing my first R&B project in May, the Papi Valentino EP, I am excited to get working on the next chapter in my career, Beast from Tha Northeast 2. I want to bring my fans the same energy and vibe that I’ve been providing while showing the growth in my music and taking my career to the next level. I’m looking to have multiple big features on this project while adding onto the history of my catalogue. I still feel as a lyricist and rhyme sayer, I have the potential to be an all-time great, but where I am starting to pave my own way, is in the sonics and melodies of my new music. I am looking forward to showcasing all of my skills in this next chapter and I think the people are gonna love it.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think NFTs were really a COVID-era thing. It felt like people were bored and had too much time on their hands so there was this frenzy with digital art and currency. But at the same time, you can definitely see how they can be a stepping stone to something more important and valuable. It brought back some of that energy of selling old Picasso paintings with digital artwork being auctioned and sold online. This is very beneficial for the new age art and artists we have nowadays and I think if executed right, we can expand it to something much greater.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is the genuine recognition of my work from another person. Someone who will listen to my music or watch my videos after I spend so much time working on my craft and putting these instrumental pieces together. So much goes into the creation of music financially, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically, so for someone other than myself to acknowledge the vibes of my music or artistry is greatly appreciated.
