We recently connected with King Delane and have shared our conversation below.
King, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
There’s 2 that come to mind actually. The first is my Masterminds album I did with DEF davyne. This album we not only stepped out of our comfort zone and showed our versatility, but we worked with some dope artists. On that project we had some hot and talented people out of the Pacific Northwest such as Pynt and Sol.Luna featured on there. We also got a feature from Jadakiss’ artist Millyz, who is incredibly hot at the moment. Masterminds is a masterpiece.
The second one is my solo album All Or Nothing. On this project I got a chance to feature some artists that have all been a favorite of mine at some point in my life. This entire album is a hustler’s ambition vibe. I got a chance to work with Nef The Pharoah, Clyde Carson, and Layzie Bone from the legendary Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. All Or Nothing is a pure gas all the way through.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been writing and recording most of my life. I started writing poetry around 8 years old, then I started writing songs around 11. Started recording around 13, and then performing at 14. So I’ve been doing this a long time.
Over the years I’ve worked with a lot of people in this industry. Whether it be recording or performing with them. That being said, you learn a lot. What to do, what not to do, in’s and outs of the industry, and so much more.
One of my biggest strengths is my work ethic. I stay hungry at all times. And with this industry constantly evolving you have to have ambition, hustle, and discipline. Having all of those qualities, I never let the next person out work me.
In the music industry it takes more than talent. There’s no single blueprint to be an artist. It gets tough at times and you often learn through trial and error. That being said I’m proud of my accomplishments. In the recent years I’ve performed hundreds of shows in countless cities across the country. I’ve released 9 albums, and I’ve grown my fan base to great numbers.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Music is my life. It’s like a passion that never dies out. So that passion keeps me driven. But I always hope that someone hears a song of mine and it changes their life or touches their soul. That’s always a goal.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Well when I was coming up as an artist it was a lot harder. You had to make demos and go push them. Sell them, give them away, send them to labels, radio stations, or anyone you thought could get you to the next step. Now everything is set up to make it easy for independent artists. I’ve always invested in myself, and looking back I would have made different investments to promote myself.
