We were lucky to catch up with KING DAWIDALLE recently and have shared our conversation below.
KING, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I grew up playing music with my dad as well as learning music by ear and learning the business side of music via personal research and networking with other artists. Knowing what I know now, I would have set up certain business modules to protect my music a lot earlier in my career as well as studied marketing earlier as well. The most essential skills I have required would definitely be being able to communicate with others. The one obstacle that stood in the way of learning was honestly my own self doubt and not knowing where to look at first.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I had a passionate love for music at a young age. I grew up watching Chris Brown, Busta Rhymes and Michael Jackson on TV. This admiration eventually was felt for other artist as well and I gradually began getting into music more through dance and playing instruments such as bass, drums and piano. Bass became my primary instrument when playing in different bands growing up before I decided to focus on my own music as a solo artist in 2018. As a solo artist, my music is free flowing and what I call genre transcending because it is a combination of world, hip hop, alternative, rock, soul and various other styles of music. What sets me apart is how I put my music together as I have my signature bass style centered in many of my compositions. I am very proud of my originality when it comes to my art because it is unique and I don’t sound like anybody. What I want fans to know about me is that my music is for the world. I am speaking my truth that is ultimately a truth that all can relate to. My music resonates with the soul and the purpose of it is to uplift while shifting consciousness.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
My original dream when it came to music was to just be a session bass player. I was content with the idea of playing other bands music while getting the opportunity to go on tour and record at studios. I realized as time went on that in order for me to do music how I would like to and make a real living, I would have to pursue it on my own and not rely on any band or bandleader to make that possible for myself. That is when I took the first step to being a solo artist back in 2018. I still played with other bands here and there but I eventually focused only on my music after that period.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I have known my producer KrazyMak since 4th grade. He is my longest friend that I always kept in touch with even to adulthood. He became my producer back in 2021 after he offered for me to record at his condo when I stopped working with my previous engineer. Now not only is he my producer but he is my engineer, dj and closest music collaborator.
