We recently connected with King Cassius and have shared our conversation below.
King Cassius, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The late great Malcolm X once said “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.” I agree with this statement that was made in the 60s, and it is still sadly relevant today. Therefore, myself along with the dope singer “Kyla Imani” released a song and video in 2o22 entitled “Black Swan.” The song follows a young black girl from the hood, goin to a predominantly white high-school in an upscale neighborhood, and the identity crisis she faces. Throughout the song you see this young woman’s struggles, character arc, and journey towards overcoming her hardships. The song was created to uplift and empower black women around the world.

King Cassius, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am King Cassius, a 22 year old from Los Angeles, graduating from NYU’s Clive Davis School Of Music in May 2023. Growing up, I have always been around entertainment. Both of my parents are in the film industry. Yet, my love for art leaned more towards the music side. My dad grew up in the Bronx, so from a young age, I was always bumping some of the pioneers of hip hop, including KRS One and Public Enemy to name a few. Around 8th grade, I decided to give music a serious try for myself. It took time to develop my skills, but as I continued to grow, I always valued the importance of writing lyrics with the profound mission of having cause bigger than myself. I strived, and still strive, to put a smile on my listeners’ faces – one song at a time. I truly believe if the music you listen to exudes good vibes, tells stories, and occasionally challenges your perspective on the world, you will be a happier person. I am blessed to have found success in the field of music by way of numerous song TV placements (Netflix, Apple TV+), being paid to perform live, surpassing 1 million overall streams, 11 million Tik Tok views and charting on Shazam’s Top 50 Charts in 2 different cities. I have also shot music videos in 8 different countries, and am excited to see what success comes with my newest single “MARDI GRAS” a dance song available on all platforms.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is the reaction of the audience. There aren’t many things better than having a crowd sing your lyrics back to you. Seeing how my music can inspire people, making them laugh, cry, and really think, is a blessing.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission at the end of the day is to make a positive change in the world with my music, and to be the best artist to ever do it. As an artist I believe it is my duty to use my platform for good. I understand that as my audience grows, my influence grows. And I will use that growth as a weapon for positive change, and forward motion in our community.
