We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kimmie Haliburda. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kimmie below.
Alright, Kimmie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
My business is called “Flapjack’s Curios and Readings by Kimblee” although I will likely change the name, but I’ll keep the logo of my rescue pitbull, Flapjack. He made me the luckiest girl in the world when he walked into my life in August 2015. We are still going strong. He is my best friend. He inspired me to get into animal healing work and reiki.
I do not view dogs, cats, or animal other animal as a pet; I view humans as caretakers and guardians. Having been in animal rescue for several years, serving as a foster mom for dogs and cats for well over a decade, I decided to donate 10% of all of my profits to animal rescue efforts. Sometimes it’s GRFT, the Knoxville group that takes in retired greyhounds. Sometimes it’s Happy Paws Kitten Rescue, also located in Knoxville. Sometimes I donate to a gofundme page for an emergency surgery that’s desperately needed for a random dog or cat. Occasionally, I put that money towards buying food for my own foster animals. I think about the people who helped when I had a dog that needed surgery and a really kind man donated money to repair my dog’s cruciate ligament. I like to donate to those causes. Whatever helps.
It is imperative that we as humans take care of animals and view them as beings worthy of love, respect, care, and compassion. They are closer to nature than we will ever be.

Kimmie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a medium, psychic intuitive, Akashic records reader, animal communicator, reiki practitioner, and energy worker. There has never been a time in my life in which I don’t remember being able to communicate with those who have passed on.
When I was 17, I had a premonition that I would get into a potentially fatal car crash just seconds ahead, but that I could avoid serious injury by letting go of my steering wheel, wrapping my arms around my head, and by pushing myself down into my seat. It was raining hard. Visibility was low. My car started to slide off the road. I hit a tree head on. I let go of the steering wheel, protected my head, and pushed myself down into my seat as hard as possible. My car flipped over. I didn’t budge. I walked away from the wreckage with a scratch on my arm. I was fine. I do not believe I’d have been able to walk away had I not been given the message just seconds before. I was told my work wasn’t done. It wasn’t my time. Act fast. Let go of the steering wheel. Protect your head. You’ll be okay.
I’ve never questioned my gifts since.
In my twenties, I only offered psychic readings and medium communication to friends. Many years later, I met a fantastic local psychic and she inspired me to start reading for the public. We are close friends now. I am so grateful for her support. Reading for the public has been very rewarding. I used to not like hugs, but so many people want hugs after a reading, because readings can be really emotional. I don’t mind them now.
Being a psychic makes me a spiritual coach of sorts. The goal is to help the client make the best decision without them “missing their life lessons.” People really just want to be loved and heard. It doesn’t take a psychic to do that; the intuitive reading is just a bonus.
I have always been able to move energy in a drastic way, even when I was a child. This become more pronounced when I discovered reiki a few years back. It is another tool in my tool box and has helped me to discover many other ways of moving and transforming energy to help heal clients and situations.
Animals are my very favorite clients. They see me, they get me, they are always down to talk. Animals are by far the best beings to telepathically communicate with. They are so open and their owners really are astounded when I tell them what their animal has communicated. It blows them away every single time. I’ve never had a bad experience doing energy work or communicating with an animal, even in dire circumstances, such as the animal being very ill. They are always understanding. They are always kind. They tend to communicate with images rather than words, but the message is there.
I am most proud of the opportunities that I get to work with animals. People come to me and trust me to give them advice for not only themselves, but for their animals and I am so lucky and so grateful for those opportunities. I do a lot of remote reiki on people and animals when they can’t come see me in person. Sometimes people will drive their dogs to me if the drive is reasonable. That level of trust makes me feel so good in my heart. I often help with behavioral issues or problems with wounds that won’t heal. I am often asked to help when a dog is sick and vets haven’t figured out what’s wrong; I have been able to pinpoint mystery illnesses each time I’ve been asked.
I have also helped locate a missing dog. She was trapped under her human’s house. It was a massive team effort and took a lot of physical effort; I just provided intuitive advice. We called another psychic just to make sure before calling the fire department to help rescue the dog. She was indeed stuck under the house. She came out unscathed.
I want clients to know that I take every intuitive reading as private, personal business. I listen and I give the best advice that I can while always keeping your feelings in mind. I don’t make anything scary or intimidating, which is a concern of many people who want to get a reading but are afraid to actually go for it. I make it very much a conversation; you ask questions and I answer as thoroughly as possible. Most commonly, people want readings about love, their career, or familial issues.
I offer Akashic records readings as well, which are very in-depth past life and future life readings. Past life readings can be a lot of fun because often people will recognize synchronicities and connections to a past life that I am describing and maybe some dreams they’ve had or interests in their wheelhouse.
I’m a “catch-all” psychic. There isn’t much I can’t do, but like everyone else, I’m always learning, too. Each reading is an opportunity for me to learn more about myself as well. Life is infinitely fascinating and we’ve all had so many of them.
I offer a couple of products as well, such as healing candles to be burned when people are sick to help them recover and ritual salts to use in the bath to help clear bad energy and manifest things you’d like to have happen on your own time.
Mostly, I want my clients to know that I love dogs more than anything in the whole world. They are healers, too.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What has helped build, and is continuing to build, my reputation within the psychic community has been my friendliness and accuracy during readings and the outcomes of reiki that I’ve done on clients. Psychic readings is my particular, and very niche, market. You don’t get far if you’re not good. You have a chance if you’re not friendly. Although I take great care and compassion when giving readings and working on a client with reiki or other forms of energy work, I can always make people laugh. That goes a long way.
Numerous times, too many to count, people have called me to tell me how much better they’ve felt after reiki or how their problem was resolved. I’m not a miracle worker, and I’m not the best healer ever, but I can move energy effectively most of the time and this has led to some really good repeat business and positive word of mouth.
Being a pretty darn good psychic medium helps, too. Kindness will get you a lot farther than superficial niceness.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I get a lot of new clients by word of mouth from past or current clients. When a person finds a psychic that they like, they tend to go back over and over and they’ll tell their friends, too.
I had a website for a while, but I didn’t like the set up. The website garnered a lot of business, too. I need to make a new one.
