We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimmie Ellis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kimmie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
My father Sunny Lov had always been a survivor. As a young boy in Cambodia, he had witnessed firsthand the horrors of the genocide that had engulfed his country. But despite the unimaginable tragedy he had faced, he refused to give up. He was determined to make a better life for himself and his loved ones, and he knew that the only way to do that was to leave Cambodia and start anew in a place where he could truly be free. He came to America! Sunny started his life in Odessa, TX. After working the oil and gas industry for a few years, he made the move to Mansfield and became a Dallas Police Officer. Shortly after, he was killed in the line of duty.
Losing a parent at such a young age is never easy, and though I do not have many memories of my father, the impact he had on my life is tremendous. I am grateful for his perseverance. I am living the American dream because of him. It is clear that with each passing year of my life his legacy lives through me!
Kimmie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kimmie Ellis and I am 36 years old. I got into the hospitality industry in 2020 and excelled in customer service and property management. In 2021 we bought land that would become La Palmilla Gardens, a boutique resort.
The main thing I would like our clients and followers to know about our brand is that our goal is to do everything with excellence. Our partners have been planning out the resort with the ultimate guest experience in mind. We value our guests and their time spent at La Palmilla.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
My husband Mitchell, John, and Daryl had all been drawn to the Lord at different points in their lives, but it was their shared faith that brought them all together! Mitchell and John were daily workout partners and dear friends often discussing business ideas and dreams. They all wanted to use their talents and skills to glorify God. As we all became dear friends, it was clear that the Lord had big plans for us to all participate in. When covid hit and churches shut down, John and his wife Anna opened their home for friends to meet. All three couples showed up week after week! It was a time where we needed community most!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media presence is so important to any business so I developed a few strategies to grow our social media following. In order to grow our presence, I would need to offer value to my followers. I started by posting high-quality content that was relevant to my target audience. It is also very important to engage with followers by responding to comments and questions! I also made sure to be consistent in posting and using hashtags to reach a wider audience. I am still working hard to build relationships with other businesses and influencers in the industry, and I am always on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate or cross-promote. Slowly but surely, our following is beginning to grow. Without even having a completed project, we are on our way to 1K! That’s something to be proud of.
My only advice would be: be consistent on stories, answering and replying to comments, and quality of posts over quantity! You can do it!
