We recently connected with Kimily Jiang and have shared our conversation below.
Kimily, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As a fashion designer, I first learned about this profession in high school, around 2008, when I watched the Beijing Olympics and saw that each country’s clothing had its own national symbol, which I found beautiful and distinctive. From that moment on, I became increasingly interested in fashion design, and I started using all the resources around me to search for and learn any knowledge related to clothing design. I began following fashion shows of various brands and gradually entered the fashion industry. In fact, what really set my future path was a show I saw online from John Galliano, a talented designer. The theme of the show was Madame Butterfly, and I even watched the opera countless times and recalled all the details that Galliano used in clothing in my mind. What truly amazed me was the flawless design of these high-end dresses, which seamlessly blended cultural background and emotions into fashion design without any deviation. I was shocked, so I decided he was my life goal, and I hope that one day in the future, I can achieve this level of perfection in my dress designs, just right and flawless.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes, I do have a lot on this subject that I can recommend to someone who is just starting out on the art path. First of all, our current network is very developed. There are many websites and blogs about fashion and clothing design on the Internet, including websites of fashion magazines, personal websites of fashion designers and fashion blogs. You can follow some fashion bloggers, fashion designers and fashion brands on social media, they will share some fashion trends and inspiration. You will know what the latest big trends are, which is very important for clothing designers. Secondly, it is recommended to go to the library as much as possible to find books and magazines related to fashion design, or to visit fashion exhibitions and museums so that you can learn about fashion design in different historical periods and cultural backgrounds, and at the same time appreciate some classic clothing work. Finally, if possible, you can participate in more competitions and offline activities, communicate with other fashion designers and enthusiasts, participate in some courses and workshops about fashion design, and practice your design ability is also a good way to obtain resources.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As a fashion designer or creative, you can contribute a lot to society through your designs. First of all, you can provide people with a more healthy, comfortable and environmentally friendly wearing experience by designing comfortable, practical and environmentally friendly clothing. Secondly, you can pass on some positive values and cultural elements through your own design, helping people better understand and understand different cultural and social backgrounds. In addition, you can promote the development and innovation of the fashion industry through your own designs, and promote economic development and employment opportunities in related industries. Finally, during the design process, you can also participate in some public welfare activities, and make more contributions to society by designing some public welfare clothing or participating in some charity activities. In conclusion, as a fashion designer or creative, you can make many beneficial contributions to society through your creativity and design.
