We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kimi Huntsman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kimi below.
Kimi, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I have always known I wanted to pursue something in the creative/artistic path. From the age of 5 I was doing talent shows, local plays, and lots of living room performing. It’s always made me feel the most like myself and brought me the most joy. I’m happiest when I’m singing.
Kimi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am 28 years old. I grew up in Midvale Utah. I am a singer/songwriter. I started my music journey by just posting singing covers then about 8 years ago I started releasing my own original music. Writing my own emotions on paper and singing them was completely different and I loved it and have been doing that ever since. I started doing local shows with other local artists and it’s just grown from there. I mostly make R&b music which is a genre that’s hard to find here in Utah but I love it. This year I was able to perform in 6+ new states and also in Europe.
The main thing I would want someone to know about my music is that it’s real .I try to be vulnerable and share my own personal experiences in hopes my songs can help someone relate or feel less alone in whatever situation they are in.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think just play their music, share the posts, add it to your playlist, go see a show. There is so much you can do to support and all of it is so appreciated.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think any creative out there has a story of resilience. It’s hard to not want to give up some days when it seems impossible or like you aren’t getting where you want to be. Sometimes it can feel like you are falling behind in life when everyone else is growing in their normal jobs. It takes a resilient person to not give in to those negative thoughts and remember why you do it. I’m still putting myself and my music out there and I will continue to because it’s what brings me joy and that is resilient to me.
