Hi Kimby & Cassandra , thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy we’re hoping to build is a successful and sustainable mother-daughter team that will inspire other mother-daughter teams to partner in business more. As business partners, we both share an affinity of similar interests , ideas, feelings, and many other things. Moreover, we want people to remember us for our unique creative style and strong attention to details. Also, we want to be remembered for our ability to build strong everlasting relationships with clients that resulted in repeated business.
Kimby & Cassandra , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are a mother-daughter team who specializes in execution of special events such as: weddings, anniversaries, baby showers, birthday celebrations, catering services, and more. Our family is best known for their ability to spearhead over-the-top events for families and friends. As a result, we inherited the gene to create and execute memorable events as well. Our upmost desire is to keep our family legacy alive for generations ahead. We currently provide services for the RVA district and surrounding areas. Our business services primarily consist of planning, design and decor, coordination, and catering services. We help minimize the stress of having to plan and coordinate events, so that the clients can experience the moment. We are known by most as the mother-daughter duo who create themed uniquely styled events for clients. And, we’re mostly recognized for our ability to prepare delectable dishes for our clients. What sets us apart from others is our personal touch and ability to create remarkable memories, and build solid relationships with our clients.
We are most proud of our ability to maintain an unbreakable bond despite of our own personal health challenges. My daughter was diagnosed with an Autoimmune condition during the pandemic and she never gave up. In addition, I have a severe case of glaucoma that causes my vision to be challenged at times. During this challenging period, we relied heavily on each other for strength and endurance. Because of our strong desire and love for our craft, we knew that quitting would never be an option. Our brand is unique in its ability to customize design/decor that will be personal to the client. We strive for excellence and quality in our business by regularly attending various workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay abreast of the latest trends in the industry.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic, we had to pivot from execution of large events to smaller ones. We implemented new strategies to gain more intimate events, and outside gatherings on a smaller scale for clients. As a result, we were able to minimize the financial impact.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
We have been passionate about planning special events for families and friends for 30+ years. Never viewed this as a hustle, but a desire to do what we love doing more than anything else. September 2013, we launched our partnership as mother and daughter and named it ‘Class Act Full-Service’. The name originated from my parents who were often praised for their class act events. We started our business with doing small parties and fundraisers to fund the business for the first two years. Later, we had enough funds to market/advertise our business to become more visible to customers. In addition, we joined networking groups and gained business through referrals, and word-of-mouth. Some of our key milestones: implemented automated systems; outsourced skills not in-house; executed new marketing strategies monthly; hired bookkeeping & accounting services; get repeated customers, grew our brand.
