Kimboley , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Starting Kimboley Kollection was a dream that began with a passion for beauty and self-care. During my first pregnancy, I had made a deal with my husband that if I gave birth to a girl, I would do the big chop and go back to my natural hair. Has faith would have it, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.
A few months later I was inspired to start making body butters. I have always been fascinated by the power of plants and their ability to nourish and heal the skin and hair. It didn’t take me long before I started experimenting with different ingredients and formulations in my own kitchen.
The timing was perfect because at that time I was fresh on my natural hair care journey and I now had a daughter who decided that she wanted to be bald headed. She was completely bald in the back and sides of her head and I wanted to do something about it. I’m a natural beautician at heart. I grew up watching the women around me style and care for hair and I spent all of childhood and teenage years doing my own hair. No style was too much for me to do.
My love for beauty care got me my first job in a salon when I was in high school. I would work weekends and holidays doing hair and when I graduated high school I went to work in the same salon full time. I moved on from my salon job to work with Sandals Resort. I was now in a completely different field of work but faith brought me back after I had my first daughter.
I was inspired to create products to cater to myself and my daughter’s hair and skincare needs. I explored different hair and skincare ingredients and experimented with various formulations to find the perfect balance between efficacy and gentleness. After using my handcrafted products for my daughter and myself, I realized that I had something special to offer to others who were looking for clean and natural beauty products.
With a lot of hard work and dedication, I turned my passion into a business and officially launched Kimboley Kollection. Each product is carefully crafted with love and attention to detail, using only the best plant-based ingredients that are gentle yet effective on the skin and hair.
My own experience with hair and skincare played a pivotal role in shaping Kimboley Kollection. Over the years, I have dealt with my fair share of skin issues and hair challenges, which fueled my determination to develop products that were not only effective but also safe and nourishing. Drawing from my personal struggles and triumphs in the realm of beauty, I was able to formulate a range of products that addressed common concerns such as dryness, breakage, slow hair growth, acne and skin discolorations, offering holistic solutions for both skin and hair care.
Through my passion for natural hair and skincare, I have embarked on a journey with Kimboley Kollection, embracing the transformative power of plant-based ingredients and spreading the message of self-love and confidence. My goal is to provide customers with a range of products that not only enhance their natural beauty but also promote self-love. The dream is to help people feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.
I want to help moms like myself cater to their daughters hair in the way it needs to be catered to. I treasure the moments when I get to nurture both my daughters hair and show them how to moisturize their skin. For some people, these little moments may seem simple but for me it’s not. These practices will live with them for a lifetime and it will serve for generations to come. That is what I want my legacy to be. I want our daughters to love their hair and skin! I want them to feel beautiful and confident and I want them to some day pass down the love to their kids as well.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My reputation within the market has been built on the foundation word of mouth. At Kimboley Kollection, I prioritized ensuring that our hair and skincare products deliver on their promises. Combined with exceptional customer service, word of mouth has been the driving force behind building a great reputation for our brand. A perfect example of this was a few years ago when I just started business. I was introduced to lady who ended up buying some products from me. She ended loving the products and so she introduced me to the lady who does her facials. To this very day, she continued to use my products to do her facials services and recommend to her clients.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Kimboley Kollection was born from a dream determination, starting with just $10,000 JMD taken from my salary at my job at the time. This amount also covered the cost of transportation to acquire the necessary materials out of town to kickstart my business. If you understand Jamaican currency, then you know $10,000 is not a lot but it was enough to pave the way. It was a bold move to invest my hard-earned money into my passion but the initial sacrifice led to the emergence of a successful brand focused on delivering top-quality hair and skincare products to our valued customers.
