We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberly Wright a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
The Holiday Season was approaching, and I began posting my present Community Service Projects on Facebook. I was portraying Mrs. Claus in BIPOC Communities. Afterwards, I began receiving messages regarding my portraying Mrs. Claus on Christmas Eve for individual homes, birthday party, and 9 children in a Girls Group Home. The Director of the girls group home and I spoke telephonically, and it was determined that there was a need for me to personally bring toys, clothes, and stocking stuffers for these girls. These girls arrived at the group home facility with only the clothes on their back. I immediately contacted friends to assist me in purchasing holiday items for these 9 young girls. Surprisingly, everyone near and far came through and I was able to do my favorite thing in the whole wide world – shop for other people’s children. Especially those in high socio emotional situations.
Christmas Eve arrived, and I packed the Mrs. Santa Sleigh and my puppy (dressed as Desitny Reindeer) and headed towards the girls group home location. I rang the doorbell, and the girls faces beamed with joy when I walked in. “Mrs. Claus, Mrs. Claus”. Then some stated, “She looks like me”. They pulled over a seat so that I could rest my feet and I began calling the names of each girl to receive their Christmas bag. Lastly, I pulled out a box for the Director (It was given to me by her boyfriend). The Director open the box and it was a beautiful diamond ring. Her boyfriend knelt down on one knee and asked her to marry him and she said “yes”.
A couple of days after Christmas, the Director contacted me to thank me for everything. (I did not receive payment for Christmas Eve). The Director asked me what other service did I provide because the girls really enjoyed my visit. I advised that I was a Mindful Coach. She asked if I could start in January and my answer was yes. We agreed on an hourly rate, date, ending date, and expectations. I started the third Saturday in January 2022 until June 2022. I was able to foster out 7 out of the 8 girls in the girls group home. It was indeed an exciting accomplishment. My first official paying job as a Mindfulness Coach. And the girls continued to call me “Mrs. Claus”.
Kimberly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Kimberly Wright, a Certified Inspired Educator, Neuro Linguistic Practitioner, Children’s Life Coach, and Children’s Mindfulness Book Self Publisher. I am a dance, motivational, and meditational tapping techniques instructor. I have taught children, over 33 years, who come from various backgrounds. Some students just need an extra push. Others are underprivileged. Some have high socio-emotional needs. I also portray Mrs. Claus all year round.
I presently use emotional freedom tapping techniques and affirmations in my curriculum to teach children, to see through their unique eyes, a colorful world that blends together just like the rainbow. I have watched my students’ emotional needs on many levels. As an advocate of “tapping,” I decided to utilize tapping and breathing techniques in my curriculum. All of my students’ self-esteem and self-awareness improved within five months of the program.
I AM a Mindfulness Self Publisher on Amazon: Tap into Your Mindfulness, Walk Into Your Affirmation, Move Into Your Mindfulness, Brown Skin Boy to Man, and Jessica Claus is Coming to Town.
Most people don’t realize how big of an impact chronic stress has on their children. It affects their health, their ability to think clearly, and their ability to be happy and to create the life they want. It doesn’t have to be this way.
You may ask, “What prompted you to get involved with this program at this particular time in your life?” Our children, and many adults throughout our nation, have experienced high levels of stress in recent years. We have experienced a pandemic, winter storms, high rates of unemployment, and deaths.
Our children are stressed out! As children begin to tap on the tapping points, they focus on their emotional feeling; being aware that they are letting go of an emotion with each tap. Tapping (EFT) helps a child’s mind to respond in healthier ways and restores the body’s balance of energy. Tapping allows children of all ages to release stress, anxiety and other negative emotions that they are dealing with on a daily basis.
As I close, while reflecting one day about all the things my mother used to tell me, something she said somehow had a new meaning. It is the reason these mindfulness books had to be completed. While growing up, my Mom use to tell me: What YOU think… YOU will believe. What YOU believe… YOU will achieve. She was affirming ME at an early age. As an adult, I tap this out every, single day. I teach my students this mantra, as well.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
People who have already purchased all five mindfulness books, thank me for my vision and bringing them to fruition. No one wants to address emotional needs in children. Truth be told, neither did I as a single parent of a son. Today, I wish that I knew about tapping, affirmations, and mental health check in days as I was guiding him from a young boy to manhood. I wish that someone would have taken ONE day to really concentrate on my son’s emotional needs. That someone would have created a mindfulness journal just for him.
Yes, I was there physically, financially, and had a Mom’s T-shirt for every activity that he participated. If I were able to turn back the hands of time and could somehow teach my son (at an early age) to profess daily affirmations and chose a mental health check in day together. If I could teach him how to use “tapping” skills to calm himself and settle down to help him move forward in a positive manner on a daily basis. Then, I would have given him three more things in his arsenal, to make his way through this thing we call life.
I am certain that a number of parents have the same story. So now that I AM retired and a new grandmother, I want to share this technique and teach parents, teachers, facilitators, and mental health professionals that children need help too. They might not speak out. Therefore, we need to grant them tools to enhance positive self-esteem and empower their self-awareness.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My Chief Financial Officer is actually my Best Friend at Work. I met him in 1995 as we both were promoted at the Department of Treasury. He knew that I was struggling and was the only person who took me under his wings to assist me with understanding the process. He never left my side as I matriculated through my promotional journey. Even when I was promoted into the managerial area and he still held the same title, we never treated one another differently. He still assisted me when needed. I even retired a year after him from the Department of Treasury.
I now had time to continue my career as a Mindfulness Coach and then on to become a Self Publisher. My Best Friend at Work began assisting me in marketing and finance. Of course, I had to make him my Chief Financial Officer. And he does this with no charge. He is absolutely still…..my best friend at work.
