We recently connected with Kimberly Ware and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
I believe the schools should be sharing with students about the jobs and careers that are available and trending at the time they will be of age to be employed. The education system should help them in the process of determining their innate skills they have that would naturally help them in a certain field. I believe they should give job aptitude test along with personality test so they could know more about themselves and what atmosphere they would thrive in. This should also include interviewing training and how to write a resume and how to dress appropriately for the work environment they are interested in.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My first job was as a receptionist at a hair salon. I immediately knew that the beauty industry was for me. I loved the feeling of seeing others being taken care of and leave feeling good about themselves. I received my license as a cosmetologist and I offered hair and skin services. My job was much more than just giving those services. It started first and foremost with a consultation to discover their needs and explain realistically what I could do to help them achieve that. During the time spent with them a trust was established and I was able to encourage them and make them feel great about themselves! I feel the most important part of a job is establishing relationships and discovering their needs and doing your best to fulfill their expectations. I am now doing the same with my boutique business. I am getting to know my customers, allowing them to be heard and noticed and encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone and express themselves.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
1) Consulting with them and finding out their needs. 2)Listening and treating them as a friend instead of a customer.3) Follow up with them offering customer service. Letting them know I genuinely care about them!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I worked as a hairstylist for 28 years and owned my own salon the last 12 years. We decided to move to be closer to family and since it was 2 hours away, I closed the salon. Instead of starting over and building another hair clientele, I decided to pivot into the boutique world. I consider it a great time to learn about the social media world and expand my knowledge in a new career, However, I’m still in the beauty industry helping and encouraging women to look and feel their best!
