We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberly Verbeke a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kimberly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
My very first job was working in a Nursing Home & Rehab Facility. I was in high school and really wanted to be a medical doctor. I started out working as a nurses aide and shortly after was given the opportunity to get my certification as Medication Assistant, meaning I gave medications & shots to patients. This job was so eye opening as to what I didn’t want. It was incredibly sad to see patients on so many medications that they were either in a zombie like state or didn’t feel well from the medications interacting with each other. More importantly, I came to understand that these pharmaceuticals were not making people well but simply masking the symptoms.
This led me away from allopathic medicine and kept me aligned with holistic medicine which is what I was raised around.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a small clinic in Boerne, TX where I work with patients 1:1, most of them for 6-12 months to help them regain their health. Everything I do is purposeful in addressing the root cause so the person can heal. I work with a MD so we do some medical treatments such as: many forms of IV Therapy including NAD+, High Dose Vitamin C, Ozone, Nutritional IVs, IV Exosomes and more. We also use peptides to which have been an amazing addition.
I work with people that have Lyme, mold, environmental toxicity, pathogens, mood issues and chronic illnesses. I’ve been fortunate to be able to train and learn from some of the best Functional Medicine doctors out there.
I also work with people that simply want to optimize their health, lose weight, get fit and age well! Having started out in geriatrics, I’m super passionate about helping people understand how to age well and it’s not rocket science. I believe a body in motion stays in motion. We have to move to stay health and so much of the degenerative disease we see today is caused from a sedentary lifestyle. When people start moving their body as well as providing adequate nutrition, their life starts to change.
I also work with people online to help them optimize their body composition, get fit and feel their best. I approach weight-loss a little differently in that I believe in focusing on body composition vs “weight-loss”. Too many women, in particular, dramatically reduce their calorie intake, lose a good deal of lean body mass and then end up with a slower metabolism than when they started. I educate my clients on muscle and its value. Most people don’t truly understand how “young” adequate muscle keep us.
I make it a priority to spend time learning every single day so I can help more people life a happier, healthier life. I believe that is my purpose, to help people feel their best!

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I take my time with each person. They aren’t rushed through the process. We sit down and I truly listen to them. Sometimes that means reading between the lines, watching body language, paying attention to how healthy or sick their nervous system appears…the body gives off many non-verbal cues to tell us if it is struggling. We just need to take the time and pay attention!

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would absolutely choose to do what I’m doing now. While I’d love to say I would change things and start sooner, I think in doing that I would have missed out on so many relevant experiences that make me a better practitioner. I’ve experienced some health issues that I had to work so hard to get through and feel really truly health again. Those experiences made me much more compassionate. They also gave me a deeper understanding of how complex we are as humans and how easy it is to take our health for granted.
