We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
On May 27, 2004 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who lived for 6 and a half hours before passing away. The NICU nurse who was assigned to her. Dressed her in serval different outfits and did a photo shoot of her providing lasting memories for me and my husband. The nurse kept in touch with me and my family. On the day of my daughter first birthday she purchased a cake , balloons and cars for my five year old son and we met at the cemetery where my daughter was buried and celebrated what would have been her first earthly birthday. That was truly one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As an advocate for the homeless, hungry, and less fortunate in my community I organize many Outreach efforts to feed and provide clothing for those in the community who are less fortunate. Our organization has never received any type of funding or grants, everything we do is done out of our personal finances to offer assistance to the individuals in which we serve. About 10 years ago after one of our community events someone contacted our local city government and complained that I (my organization) was bringing these homeless individuals into their neighborhood. Please note we always meet the people where they are therefore, these individuals were already staged and sleeping in or near this neighborhood. Nevertheless the city contacted me as the organizers regarding the complaint. They advised me that I was in violation because I did not have a permit to feed the hungry or less fortunate in the community. Mind you everything that we do is FREE of charge and it is provided by our personal finances. However, I was advised that we would be fined in the future and in order for my organization to continue our Outreach efforts within the community I would have to have a permit issued by the city and purchase a million dollars worth of liability insurance listing the city as an additional insurer to provide FREE meals, clothing and essentials to these individuals. As I noted this allegation was made against us over 10 years ago and I am proud to say that despite the obstacles and the challenges we have faced we are still in the community, still providing FREE food and clothing to those who are homeless, hungry, and less fortunate as we abide by the city’s rules and regulation. Each event that we host we are complying with the city to obtain a permit as well as purchasing a million dollars worth of liability insurance to provide a FREE hot meal, food, clothing, and essentials for the individuals who are less fortunate within our community. There are many other organizations who utilize the same park that we utilize for our events who have never been asked/told they have to obtain a permit or purchase liability insurance, however, we forge on because we have a mandate for the Lord to continue our work and by any means necessary we will fulfill the mission and which he has given unto us..

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
When I look back over my professional career and everything that I have done throughout my years of being an entrepreneur. I believe that my character and integrity have been my most valuable assets they are have served most helpful in building my reputation. When an individual knows they can trust you and take you at your word no matter what, you will not compromise that speaks volumes in any industry and in any Walk of Life. The only thing that a man has is his word and if your word cannot be trusted then you cannot be trusted. I thank God for godly principles and being taught to always honor and keep your word no matter what. The ethics code to live by “A man’s word is his bond ”
