We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Perdue-Sims recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope my legacy will be I never quit. I always found a way to make it happen. There will be obstacles along your journey, but regardless of your age or financial status, you should always remain true to the creative and creativity inside of your spirit.

Kimberly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
At the age of eleven I made a list of everything I wanted to be when I grew up. The list included astronaut, lion tamer, farmer, airline stewardess, horse trainer and writer. Fortunately, the one I fully embraced was writer. I started with short stories and poems. My mother was my first fan, along with my 4th grade teacher. Writing became a passion, a prison and an escape.
My grandparents owned an 8mm camera, projector and screen. I learned how to operate it all by the age of ten. But it wasn’t until my late 20’s when I realized I could marry my love of writing and filmmaking together. I attended a local broadcasting school in Louisville, KY and learned about lighting, audio and the mechanics of what it took to go from paper to screen. I never found the road to my journey until much later in life because of the lack of role models who were writers, filmmakers and artists, I learned I had to forge my own path.
I self-published my first novel in 2006 and a collection of short stories in 2009. I have written and directed over two dozen plays, been included in five anthologies and started an online writer’s group in 2005. In 2008, I started my first video production company, Soulful Abode Media. I created a few book trailers for authors, including myself and shot one music video. I had no clue what I was doing. My company changed names, locations and directions over the past several years.
In 2019, while working on a steamboat cruising up and down the Mississippi River, Real Sister Creations was born. I purchased my first real video camera, editing software and began to create.
All of my clients are special to me. I am 100% devoted to their satisfaction with their final product. My specialty is book trailers and promotional videos for small businesses. I love creating book trailers. The feedback I get from the authors and their fans brings me immense joy. I go beyond putting still pictures and font with some background music. That’s what book trailers were like in the early 2000’s. My purpose, my mission is to utilize stock videos, live actors, professional voice over artists, various sets and locations and whatever other creative ways to bring my clients books to life!
My biggest project to date is a documentary I scripted and directed in the summer of 2021.
I and my Real Sister Creations team wants everyone to know our only priority is to showcase you, your products and/or services visually, creatively while ensuring your satisfaction 100%.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
Joy. Joy of my clients and for me. It almost sounds cliche, but it’s true. To look at a blank sheet of paper or computer and create a world that never existed before, is a sense of joy. When a client sends a 50-word summary of their book or answers 5 required questions about their business, and I hear, “OMG! How did you do that?” or “That’s more than I envisioned!” It makes my soul sing. It’s pure joy.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to help others to see their dreams come to life visually. When I create a video that makes my clients happy, brings them recognition and grows their fan base, I have done my job. I am on the right path, the right journey. I am living my dream.
