Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimberly Myers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kimberly , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I had just given birth at 7:41 a.m. on Father’s Day to a beautiful baby boy. The day had been filled with joy, love, and exhaustion. Later that night, our son was taken to the nursery so we could get a little rest. By 2:00 a.m., my husband and I were finally asleep when a nurse abruptly entered the room, pushing the bassinet and holding a bottle of formula. Without explanation, she handed it to me and said, “Your baby is losing a lot of weight, and you need to feed him this formula now!” My heart dropped. Confused, scared, and completely overwhelmed, we had no idea what was happening. We were first-time parents, sleep-deprived, and suddenly thrust into a situation we did not know how to navigate.
The crib card stated that my baby was to be breastfed only. But the nurse insisted. Reluctantly, I did as I was told, even though something inside me screamed that this was not the way I envisioned feeding my child. The next day, I spoke to another nurse and shared how the situation had unfolded. I told her this was not how I wanted to feed my baby. And to my relief, she reassured me, and I received the breastfeeding support that I needed. That moment, in the chaos of new parenthood, was my turning point. I knew I was not alone in my feelings. I vowed to myself that I would never let any other mom feel as lost or confused as I did in that moment.
But there is something deeper here. Growing up, my mom was a postpartum nurse. I would meet her after work and be captivated by the tiny babies she cared for in the nursery. I even spent some time with her on the floor, soaking in the world of maternal health. My mom once asked me if I ever wanted to be a nurse, but at the time, I could not see myself in that role. I took a completely different path and began college studying as a student pilot. During a college exercise program, I took my first step aerobics class—and that single class sparked a new passion for health and fitness. I completed my studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management and an Associate of Science in Travel Management, but my heart was already being pulled in a new direction. That growing love for health and wellness would soon lead me back to where I started: the world of maternal and child health.
Eventually, my professional journey led me to a position as an Information Specialist for a government contract with the Office of Minority Health Resource Center (OMHRC). That is when I had my first deep exposure to maternal-child health through a national radio and print campaign aimed at raising awareness about the alarming rates of infant mortality in minority communities. This experience sparked something in me. I wanted to dive deeper, to understand more about the issues that were affecting families, especially moms.
After the birth of my second child—my daughter—something in me deepened. My thirst for knowledge about child development grew stronger than ever. I pursued certification as a childbirth educator and an early childhood educator, eager to better understand the stages of growth and how to support families more holistically. That hunger to learn continued to grow, and I soon enrolled in a Master’s program in Elementary Education. Throughout this journey, a calling began to take shape. I realized I wanted to blend everything I had learned—from being a mom, a wife, and a parent, to my experiences as a health educator and maternal wellness professional—into something meaningful that could truly support others. That’s when I founded Pregnancy Concepts LLC.
What started as just a company focusing on teaching childbirth class quickly evolved into a comprehensive service, providing childbirth education, lactation consultations, and parenting support. I launched a podcast, For the Love of Parenting, to further support parents. The unique approach of Pregnancy Concepts LLC lies in focusing on the whole parent, listening to and meeting families where they are, and providing evidence-based guidance to navigate the overwhelming world of parenting. I wanted to make sure parents had a clear, confident path forward—one that felt authentic and true to their journey, not dictated by well-meaning advice from every direction.
The logic behind this endeavor was simple: I wanted to create a space where parents could gain confidence at every step of their journey, from pregnancy to childbirth, breastfeeding, and transitioning into parenthood. I knew firsthand how overwhelming and confusing it can be, and I wanted to help others avoid the sense of isolation and uncertainty I once felt.
What excites me most about my work is that I get to help families build their confidence from the beginning. My own parents were incredibly supportive in helping me along my career path. My mom, who knew I had the potential to succeed in this field, was always there to encourage me. My dad, an entrepreneur himself, instilled in me the values of hard work and owning your own path. Even though I strayed from the direct route, it all led me back to the same field my mom worked in—and somehow, it felt like the universe had a hand in this.
In the end, I was fulfilling the very calling my mom had always seen in me. There is something about that ‘mom knows best’ intuition, and in my case, it led me to a fulfilling and impactful career that I am passionate about sharing with other moms and their families.
So, here I am—passionate about empowering and educating parents, one step at a time. I am proud to be where I am today, offering a unique approach that combines all of my experiences to help parents thrive in their journey. Because at the end of the day, it is not about perfection. It is about being a loving, supportive parent—and that is what I am here to help families do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always believed that supporting parents requires more than just information—it requires heart, experience, and a deep understanding of the journey. At Pregnancy Concepts LLC, the maternal and child health education company I founded, that belief is at the core of everything we do. With over 20 years in the field as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), childbirth educator, and early childhood specialist, I’ve built a practice rooted in compassion and whole-parent support.
My path here wasn’t linear, but it was intentional. Watching my mother—a postpartum nurse—care for new families planted an early seed. Years later, while studying Aviation Management and training to become a student pilot, a college fitness class unexpectedly awakened my passion for wellness and human development. Everything shifted after becoming a mother myself. The birth of my second child—my daughter—deepened my interest in child development, and soon after, I pursued certifications and graduate studies to better understand the parenting journey—not just for myself, but to support others navigating it.
Through Pregnancy Concepts LLC, I offer a suite of evidence-based services that meet families where they are, including:
• Childbirth education classes
• Lactation consultations (covered by most insurance plans)
• Parenting and early childhood education workshops
• One-on-one coaching through pregnancy and postpartum
• Our podcast, For the Love of Parenting
I solve real problems parents face every day—from preparing for birth and recovering postpartum to navigating breastfeeding challenges like latching issues, tongue-tie, milk supply concerns, returning to work, and starting solids. Beyond the physical, I support parents as they redefine identity, relationships, and priorities after baby arrives. I specialize in making the science of parenting relatable and digestible, especially for first-time parents and families who have faced barriers to care.
What sets me apart is the integration of lived experience, professional expertise, and educational depth, combined with a deep commitment to compassion, empowerment, and meeting families where they are. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all parenting advice. I meet families with respect, cultural sensitivity, and practical guidance, always listening before teaching.
I am most proud of the thousands of families I have helped confidently start and sustain their breastfeeding journeys, navigate childbirth with clarity, and embrace parenting with joy and purpose. I live for those “aha!” moments when a mother realizes, “I can do this.” Those moments fuel everything I do.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Sure, one story that truly reflects my resilience is my journey to complete my Master’s degree in Elementary Education. I originally started the program in 2006, but paused my studies because I did not want to continue taking out student loans—I was committed to pursuing higher education in a way that aligned with both my family values and financial goals. In 2012, I re-entered the program through the university’s Focus to Finish Scholarship, which supported students returning to complete their degrees. I was awarded a full scholarship, and I took that as a clear sign that this field—supporting parents and children—was where I was meant to be.
Two years before beginning my graduate studies, I had my second child—my daughter—who we later discovered had ADHD and dyslexia. Supporting her learning journey with care and intention deepened my interest in child development and strengthened my commitment to truly understanding how children grow, learn, and thrive.
My experience as a parent inspired me to pursue certification as an Early Childhood Educator—not only to help others, but also to become the kind of parent my children needed. I used my graduate studies and training as a practical guide for parenting, learning how to interpret behaviors, support learning differences with empathy, and cultivate confidence in both myself and my children.
Earning my master’s degree was a turning point—not just an academic achievement, but a powerful personal milestone. It symbolized my persistence, my purpose, and the beginning of a deeper calling to support families with compassion, insight, and lived experience.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Looking back, I realize one of the hardest things to unlearn was the belief that I needed to have it all figured out before I started. That was the lesson I had to unlearn before I could really move forward.
In the beginning, I thought I needed the flawless website, the full curriculum, the polished branding, and every system in place before I could share my work with the world. I kept telling myself, “Once everything’s just right, then I will start.” But the truth is—nothing is ever really perfect, and waiting for perfect kept me from making progress.
What I have learned—and am still learning—is that clarity comes through action. I had to give myself permission to just start—even if it was not perfect, even if I was nervous, even if I was still figuring things out. I had to do it scared. And I am still a work in progress.
What I have come to realize is that people do not connect with perfection—they connect with authenticity, intention, and presence. The people who needed what I offered were not waiting for me to be perfect—they were waiting for me to show up.
That shift helped me build Pregnancy Concepts LLC with courage and compassion, growing as I go, refining as I learn, and giving others permission to do the same. We don’t need to have it all together to make an impact—we just need to start.
It’s a lesson I carry into everything I do—even when I’m working with parents, reminding them that there are no perfect parents, but countless ways to be loving and supportive.
