We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Liermann recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I started getting serious about acting later in life, around 39. Career wise, I tried almost everything I was interested in except the one thing I was truly passionate about–acting. I just said, “Why not?” I didn’t really have a lot of things holding me back, so I started taking an acting class at The Actor’s Workout Studio with Fran Montano. It changed my life and I’ve never looked back.
I’m actually very happy with the fact that I’ve started later in life. I feel way more grounded in life and I know exactly who I am. When I was younger, say in my 20’s, I would have been way too desperate for something to happen, too much of a rush to ‘make it’. Now, I’m just enjoying journey of being an actor. Enjoying making friends, collaborating, and taking acting classes. I’m in no hurry and I’m trusting the process. If I had started earlier in life, there’s a good chance I would have quit already!

Kimberly , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into acting because I couldn’t imagine not pursing this intense passion inside any longer! 2 Years later and I can’t imagine my life any other way. It’s so fulfilling to step outside of myself into the shoes of someone else and tell their story. I started by taking classes with excellent, reputable instructors. Once I felt confident that I could try and book work, I got headshots taken and signed up for Actor’s Access. There are other casting websites, but I’ve had the most luck with that one. Once that was set, I just started submitting myself everyday for projects that sound fun and interesting to me.
The thing I am most proud of is that I’m pretty fearless. I don’t mind looking stupid, taking risks and putting myself in uncomfortable positions. Some of the most fun I’ve had in acting has been when I throw caution to the wind and just go with my instincts or what feels good! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I don’t mind being wrong or being rejected either, it just narrows the focus.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
There are a couple ways to support creatives these days, one of the best ways is to share the artist’s work with your friends, family, whoever! Make it a part of conversation, tell them why you love the artist. Like their posts on social media, share them with like minded people.
Another is monetarily, which I totally understand is really hard these days. But if you have a friend who is crowdfunding a project, if you can help donate that truly helps. Even if you can only donate a few dollars, every single one of them counts.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
This is probably going to sound generic or cheesy, but my goal as an actress is really just to take people away from their lives for a short time and make them feel. Whether that be joy, pain, love, silliness–I want to move people. I’d love to be at the grocery store 20 years from now and have a someone come up to me and say, “Hey, when I was younger and going through some tough stuff, watching that movie you were in really made me laugh and helped me feel better.” That would mean the absolute world to me, because that’s what film and tv has done for me in my life– get through it!!
