We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kimberly Horne. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kimberly below.
Kimberly, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
My biggest risk was starting my company, Simply Balanced Business Solutions. Prior to my business, I worked as an Accounts Receivable Assistant Manager, Accounts Receivable Manager as well as an Accounting Manager overseeing Accounts Payable and Receivable. I enjoyed my jobs and colleagues as well as opportunities of continuous growth and education. In these positions and as a seasoned individual, I always encouraged others to step out and do their best and follow their dreams. I did this not only at work but at home with my son and volunteering with youth. As I continued to work, it became obvious to me that I needed a change, and I did not want to continue working for someone else. I was having a discussion with my son, and he happen to say, ” you always tell me I can do whatever I put my mind to, why can’t you.” There were a lot excuses, I’m older, I have more bills but ultimately, I realized it was fear. What if I fail? After visualizing the worst that could possibly happen and knowing I could overcome it, finally in November 2021, I resigned from my job and began the adventure of becoming a business owner.

Kimberly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, my name is Kimberly Horne, and I am the owner of Simply Balanced Business Solutions, a medical billing and accounting agency.
My journey into the accounting and medical administrative field was unexpected. I began my career as a data entry specialist, a role that required close collaboration with the accounting department and handling daily deposits. When a vacancy opened in accounting, I was encouraged to apply. At the time, I had not completed my degree and didn’t consider myself strong in math, so I was hesitant. However, I decided to take a chance, interviewed for the position, and was offered the role of Assistant Manager of Accounts Receivable.
That opportunity became my introduction to the world of accounting—and to my surprise, I enjoyed it. Over time, I worked with healthcare, behavioral health, and pharmaceutical companies, which sparked a deep interest in the healthcare industry. In 2013, I earned my bachelor’s degree in business healthcare with a minor in Leadership.
Soon after, I advanced into the role of Accounts Receivable Manager with the added responsibility of serving as Claims Supervisor. This blend of accounting and healthcare administration became my passion and the foundation for my business. It’s a field where I’ve grown, produced meaningful results, and ultimately embraced as my own.
Simply Balanced Business Solutions was founded with the mission to leverage my education and over 20 years of industry experience to support healthcare providers in achieving a healthier work/life balance.
We serve as a trusted resource for organizations seeking to outsource their medical administrative functions. Our services are designed to boost cash flow and reduce outstanding accounts receivable.
We offer:
Accounts receivable analysis
Claims submission
Cash posting and collections
New hire training
Staff development and training
Billing process audits
Bookkeeping services for healthcare and other industries
Our goal is to provide efficient, effective solutions that allow providers to focus on patient care while we handle the business aspects.
I take great pride in the services we provide. With many strong companies in the industry, choosing the right partner often comes down to the best fit. We believe our unique blend of experience and education positions us as a strong contender among the best.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I resigned from my position in 2021, I had an entirely different business plan in mind; one that had nothing to do with healthcare or accounting. As a longtime volunteer working with youth, I was passionate about creating fun, skill-building products, like interactive ice cream gift boxes that guided children through simple, step-by-step activities.
However, shortly after I stepped away from my job, I began receiving calls from people who knew about my background in claims processing and accounting. At the same time, I found myself needing immediate financial stability. That unexpected demand for my expertise led me to pivot quickly—back to what I knew best and, as I soon realized, what I truly loved.
That pivot wasn’t part of the original plan, but it reconnected me to my strengths and ultimately inspired the launch of Simply Balanced Business Solutions – God’s plan and purpose for my life.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Interestingly, the most effective strategy for growing my clientele didn’t begin as a strategy at all. My initial clients came through referrals from former colleagues; people who reached out to me for help, unaware that I had launched my own business.
Our largest client to date actually came from a simple check-in call with a former manager. After a few similar interactions, I realized the value of reconnecting with my professional network. That’s when it became an intentional strategy.
I began proactively reaching out to former coworkers and contacts, sharing updates about my new business, the services I offer, and how to get in touch. This personal outreach sparked significant growth. Since then, I’ve continued to build on this approach through business lunches, informal calls or texts, and more formal communication like emails with links to my website or special service discounts. Maintaining connections has been the strategy for personal and professional growth.
