We recently connected with Kimberly Faye Greenberg and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kimberly Faye thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’m pretty sure I came out of the womb wanting to be a performer. My mother loves to tell the story of finding me in my crib, dancing and singing along to the Mickey Mouse Club on television. By 4th grade, I was attending a local performing arts summer camp, and I knew instantly that I had found my home.
I was the kid everyone made fun of, but at camp, it was different. Suddenly, all of our quirks and “weirdness” were celebrated. We were encouraged to lean into those traits and channel them into our art: acting, singing, dancing… even making pizza puppets (a memory that still makes me smile).
Around that time, I also discovered trade magazines (Backstage, Show Business to name a few) and taught myself how to write a resume so I could audition locally. As I grew older, the arts became my entire world. By high school, I was already working at a professional level as an actor and as a backstage artist. The path never wavered.
Now, with over 25 years as a professional performer, backstage artist, and as The Broadway Expert—a coach, teacher, and author—I’m grateful to say I’m living my dream. Even more importantly, I get to help other artists pursue theirs. That, to me, is the greatest gift.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I wear multiple hats that often overlap: I’m a working performer with over 25 years of experience in all facets of the industry, a Broadway backstage wardrobe dresser swing (meaning I put actors in their costumes), and a business coach for actors, backstage artists, and creatives, known as The Broadway Expert.
My own path into this industry wasn’t straightforward. I grew up loving musical theatre, and over the years I carved out a niche for myself playing strong, brassy, sassy historical women—most notably Fanny Brice. I’ve performed her in four different productions, recorded two cast albums, and created an acclaimed solo show that continues to tour the country. The role of Fanny Brice not only shaped me as an actor, it gave me the confidence and chutzpah to lean fully into who I am both onstage and off.
By balancing so many hats, people in the business began asking how I was able to do what I was doing. I had built a strong brand for myself, was sustaining a career across multiple areas, and had developed a network that kept me consistently working. Along the way, others started asking for my help and that’s when my coaching business was born.
So many performers, backstage artists, and creatives struggle with the business side of the industry: branding themselves, pitching to agents, making authentic connections, and staying proactive when the work feels uncertain. That’s why I started teaching, coaching 1:1, and ultimately wrote my book, Business & Marketing Strategy for the Proactive Performer. My mission is to give performers the tools to run their careers like a business, so they can get in the room, secure representation, and ultimately book work.
What sets me apart is that I’m in the trenches myself. I’m still auditioning, still performing, still navigating the same industry my clients are striving to succeed in. My advice isn’t abstract. It’s grounded in real-world experience and the tools of running your own business. I know what works, what doesn’t, and how to pivot when the landscape shifts.
I’m proudest when I see my clients land agents, book jobs, and most importantly, step into their power as artists. For me, it’s not just about teaching the hustle; it’s about helping them build sustainable, joyful careers that reflect their individuality.
If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s that whether you’re a seasoned performer or just starting out, you can take control of your career. With the right strategy, support, and mindset, you don’t have to wait around for opportunity, you can create it.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. My mission is to help performers and creatives own their unique you, because that’s the secret sauce to being remembered and ultimately booking work.
I learned this through my own career. I didn’t create my niche by being the most talented person in the room; I did it by getting very clear on what I uniquely brought to the table and leaning fully into it. That meant embracing all the things I loved – performing, working backstage, teaching, coaching – even when others told me to focus on just one. By owning the combination of skills, experiences, and personality traits that made me me, I carved out a path that was authentic, sustainable, and memorable.
That’s what I now encourage my clients to do: to stop trying to mold themselves into someone else’s idea of “marketable,” and instead get confident and articulate about their own individuality. When you know what you bring most strongly to the table and can communicate it clearly, doors open. That’s the power of branding yourself as your authentic self, and it’s the through-line in everything I do.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is that I get to truly live what my soul intended. When I’m performing, I’m not just entertaining, I’m helping audiences escape for a moment, while also inspiring them to look deeper into the past and remember the extraordinary women who came before us. Playing characters like Fanny Brice or other historical women feels like honoring their legacy and keeping their influence alive.
With my coaching, the reward comes from watching others step into their own power. I love being able to provide performers with the tools I didn’t have early on, so they don’t have to spend years throwing spaghetti at the wall. Instead, they can take ownership of their path with clarity and confidence. There’s nothing better than seeing someone land an agent, book a job, or finally recognize their own worth.
Both as a performer and as a coach, it’s about empowerment for myself, for my audiences, and for the artists I work with. That sense of collective rising, of lifting each other up, is what fills me up and keeps me constantly striving to grow in my own work.
