We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kimberly Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kimberly below.
Kimberly , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have always managed my own social media pages. I started out on Facebook, then added 2 Instagram pages (one for my beauty makeup and one for my sfx makeup) and then I have added a tiktok page as well. It does take up a lot of time to run all of them but you have to set aside time every couple of days to keep posting content.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been doing beauty makeup for years and one day, I talked to a friend in Atlanta and he told me he has seen a lot of my makeup work and I should think about doing makeup for film projects. I started to research how to get started on film projects. I looked up makeup artists, joined Facebook film groups and started posting and introducing myself. I got a call to do makeup for my first film project in Columbia, SC they wanted to also teach me how to do special effects makeup. I started to learn a few things about special effects makeup and I started getting calls for projects in Georgia, NC, SC and Texas. I worked on short films, features, commercials, music videos and photoshoots. I really enjoy working on photo shoots and film projects being creative, meeting new people. I hope to be doing this a long time, this is definitely a dream come true. I’ve been able to work with some amazing people that I never thought I’d meet like Deon Richmond, Mo’Nique, Charnele Brown, Robert Lasardo, Rod Wave and ESG to name a few.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I post a lot on social media and ever since I started in the film industry I have networked as much as possible. I post my work on Facebook and Instagram several times a week and also post in Facebook groups. A lot of clients I’ve worked with before will tag me in posts they see where someone needs a makeup artist or will tell family/friends about me and it keeps growing from there.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I constantly study new makeup looks and try different looks with my beauty and sfx makeup. I always want to make sure my clients are happy with the makeup looks I do on them. I’ll ask them while doing their makeup how they like it and show them how it looks so far. Every year I try to do one big sfx makeup look that I’ve never done before. I want to grow with my clients and keep pushing myself.
