We were lucky to catch up with Kimberly Darpoh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I’ll never forget when the pandemic first began in March 2020. I had just delivered my son one month prior and the world had literally turned upside down. It was a lot of uncertainty and the most concerning part for me was that my maternity time was ending in a few months. Which means I would be returning to work in the height of the pandemic. The thought of it truly concerned me. Especially since I just delivered my baby boy.
However, I did eventually return and mostly all the complaints we were getting mostly had to do with COVID. And I had this one patient who was so kind to me that I was taking care of. He literally thanked me so much for every single thing that I was doing. And it meant so much to me, because he truly appreciated the fact that I was sacrificing my time away from my family to take care of him. It truly touched my heart. And it’s a moment that I’’ll never forget.
It reminded me of why I became a nurse and during that season when things got challenging at work I always thought of that moment.

Kimberly, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since I was in middle school I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. So, that dream finally came true when I graduated from Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2017 with my BSN. Soon after I began documenting my nursing journey on Instagram to inspire others and educate them as well. Through doing that I was able to build an engaging community that also inspired me in so many ways. Over the years I’ve hosted a couple of my own nursing events and have been apart of many others as well.
In addition I’ve been blessed to work with so many incredible brands such as Dr. Teals, Dunkin’ Doughnuts, many scrub brands, and etc. it’s truly been such an incredible journey. I’m so thankful to each and every follower who has stuck with me through my journey of ups and downs. I don’t take it for granted one bit.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Something I feel is most helpful in succeeding as a nurse is having a true passion for it and always remembering why you became a nurse. I always say that there is not enough money in the world to make you want to start being a nurse. Meaning that yes you can be paid well, but the money alone will not be enough to stay in this career. You have to have passion, because there will be a lot of challenging days in this field. However, those who have passion will be able to remain in it and still be fulfilled.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my instagram community was being my authentic self. Which means I show some of the ups and downs in this career and my personal life. That allowed people to understand that I’m human too and I’m not perfect. But, it also shows that if I’m able to get through these challenging moments, so can they.
