Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kimberly Burton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kimberly, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One risk that I took in my business was joining a coaching program. Given that I started photography as a teen, there were many things that I learned along the way from simply not knowing better. I have had various mentors in the past; however, I wanted a consistent mentor who could help me and my business elevate to the level I always dreamed of. Last year, I came across a photography coaching program and initially was hesitant. The price point was fairly out of my budget and I knew this would be an all in investment. Despite me being sceptic, I joined. Since joining, I have grown not only as a photographer, but as a business woman and professional. It was the best risk I have taken in business thus far!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I actually did a blog on this!

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think naturally as entrepreneurs we are in an ongoing battle where we must remain resilient. One moment in particular where my business was stretched was during and following COVID. Given that I work in the service industry, the pandemic certainly impacted how much traction my business would or would not get. Like many, I was discouraged and unsure if my business would survive the pandemic. While nervous, I became strategic in how I showed up in my business. I utilized the down time to really get clear on how to show up in my marketing. I implemented many social media tactics and oddly enough my business grew the most in the pandemic.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Since joining my coaching program, I knew I had to pivot in my marketing and be more intentional about reaching my target audience. The core of what I do is lifestyle and wedding photography. Despite that being the case, I often only showcased branding sessions, graduation sessions and the like. I was not as intentional in my marketing and the frequency and type of work that I showcased. I was urged to create content based on what my ideal client needed to see. I began showing up more as a lifestyle photographer and wedding photographer.
