We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberlene Vatelia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberlene , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

I came up with the name of my business literally just thinking of a creative way to describe the beauty of South Florida women and how to get the glow we have if you begin your journey with skincare.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

My name is Kimberlene Lashawn Vatelia. I was born and raised in South Florida with a touch of South Carolina. My mother is American and my father is Haitian. I am a mother of two young adults and I love to travel and enjoy life. I have always been passionate about beauty. I officially entered the industry in June of 2021 when I graduated from Aveda Institute in Davie for esthiology. From there I started looking for spaces to open the business which I finally found in September of 2021. And on November 6, 2021, That South Florida Glow was open! What has contributed to the fast growth of the business is the energy I present to my clients and the relationships I have built with each and every one of them. I always make sure they are in a clean and comfortable environment and have a safe space to destress. At That South Florida Glow, we offer facials, full body waxing, lash extensions and brow tinting and wax services with more services and products to come in the near future. I am extremely humbled by the joy this business has brought myself and the clients that consistently come to see me. It feels amazing! I have a passion for people and love to make them smile. I am proud of having over 192 5 star reviews on groupon in just over a year of being in business. It makes me feel like I’m doing something right and can’t wait to get bigger and better with the blessing God has fully equipped me to operate in.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

The best source of new clients for me hands down has been Groupon and always word of mouth/referrals. It has been the best marketing tool I could have ever used to grow so quickly.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?

Yes I actually offer suite rentals to other beauty business owners. I have a total of 5 rooms at the spa.
