We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberlee Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberlee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

As a teen I was never apart of the “IT” crowd. I played basketball and had few friends, but you could always find me in the corner. I was never one to be apart of the “SPOTLIGHT”. Still to this day I like to stay behind the scene when I’m working with someone.

So when the pandemic hit in 2020, I sat in the corner of my moms house used her desk & started my first business “Alyssa’s Korner”. I am Kimberlee Alyssa Carter and I loved that corner. The corner was almost like my safe space. I had just moved back home from Texas and was in a restarting period of my life. I always felt like, if I’m in the corner, I’m out of the way. Just existing. Well Alyssa’s Korner, allowed me to no longer just exist. The Korner offers many different services from Graphics Design to Printing Flyers or Business Cards to Apparel Designing. When I first started, I started out helping Business Owners get established, so I just separated the paperwork from the Crafts & that how Thee Luxurious Assistant was formed.

My company really saved me life in 2020, and almost 3 years later, I’m going stronger than ever!

Kimberlee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

For those of you just meeting me for the first time, I am Kimberlee A Carter Johnson. I worked in a school district in Mississippi for 6 years as a Teacher’s Assistant before transitioning to a Virtual Assistant. I have two sister businesses. Alyssa’s Korner is where you can get your graphics done. Thee Luxurious Assistant is your Virtual Assistant to either establish your business and keep the paperwork in line or to come in and help keep it running efficiently.

A lot of my clients are people who want to know their product will be made with care and that they won’t get the run around. I created my businesses because people always gave me the run around so I make sure my clients never know how that feels. I am most proud of hitting my first 5 figures just shy of year two in the industry. I have established a staffing agency for Virtual Assistants so that I not only build a community to share, shape and have a safe space, but so that I can show other women there is a place for them in this industry.

When I was younger I always knew I wanted to be an Assistant, because I am not a girl of the “SPOTLIGHT”. I love serving my people quality work and staying behind the scenes to do it. If you have the chance to work with me or hire me for a project, you will enjoy working with me and we’ll be stuck together for life.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I built my audience up by showing up and being transparent.

None of us are perfect, but those of us that can be our true authentic selves, those are who truly understand every level of the rise. There are so many things you have to do to make sure your face is being seen, but first and foremost understand who you want to see you. Learning my targeted audience were women who struggle with weightless or struggle to believe you can truly leave the corporate world where I come from was a huge one for me.

Whenever I have to speak to someone I remind them that none of the men and women in the Bible God used were perfect. They were all flawed in some unique way, and it was that flaw that made them perfect for the lesson.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

Imagine I had hit a moment when my hometown was not my target audience and I upped and moved to Florida. As I reflect now, I understand more. My entire family left me in Florida with nothing, but the clothes I bought. I decided to get a work from home job, and I worked that Job 3 weeks. Week 3, I could hear God loud and clear to quit. Mid Lunch Break on a Thursday, I told my supervisor, I wasn’t coming back. 3 hours later, this young lady was sending me a plane ticket to be her Assistant in Atlanta that weekend.

That was when it truly hit me, to stay in my lane and just know that everything happens for a reason. In Atlanta, I got the opportunity to sit amongst 6 figure making women and learn new marketing techniques and also that’s how Thee Luxurious Assistant was born. That was in 2021, and in 2022 I started working with a client and made my first 5 figures.

I often imagined what life would look like if I listen to those that say go back in the Nursing field or go back to the school district. Their reasoning don’t align with the calling on my life and going back after God has shown me, if I just follow the path for him he will take care of the rest.
