We were lucky to catch up with Kim Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kim thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
When my daughter was two or three years old, I ended the relationship with her dad and one year later – made the decision to relocate from Mississippi to Texas in order to rebuild as I was living check-to-check. I moved with family I didn’t have a strong relationship with for approx. six months, moved out, lost connection with them for a bit, and found myself alone in a new city/state with my daughter and no support system.
I worked two jobs until I got on my feet and later started a podcast – Experiencing Motherhood: Single & Black to share the journey in an effort to meet other single moms like me that were on a path to change their life. The podcast led to me building a community through Instagram and being fortunate to impact the lives of moms around the world.
If I never left my support system/home, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
About me: When I couldn’t find the single mom community I was seeking, I took it upon
myself to bridge a significant gap. I am the visionary behind Single Black Motherhood, a
purpose-driven community dedicated to empowering single mothers through education,
resources, and practical tools to enhance their overall quality of life. My belief in the importance
of community support drives me to offer various opportunities for connection, both online and
through in-person events, retreats, and meetups. Thanks to my dedicated service, mothers from all
corners of the globe have found a platform to connect, inspiring lasting transformations in their lives.
How I got into my industry:
I started podcasting and moms wanted more ways to connect so I built the community and started hosting meetups in my local city and I wanted to take it up a notch to have more of an impact while meeting moms and traveling so I started the Single Moms Retreat. The retreat meets the needs of community – allowing moms to connect with each other in person and it provides them with education and tools to help them improve their live.
Most proud of: Building an impactful community
Main thing I want known:
Single moms are capable of changing their lives with exposure and community.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I shared parts of my journey that I didn’t see other people weren’t sharing. I did my best to remain authentic and show up consistently, while getting to know the people in my audience.
I believe relatability and engagement really helped me to grow my audience.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
