Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kim Wallace . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kim, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was little I went to see Peter Pan with my mom. It was such a magical experience, I instantly fell in love with the theater and performing. From then on I was dancing, singing and acting any chance I could get. It wasn’t until I moved to LA that I realized how much writing my own music truly meant to me. Now that is the main focus and goal.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started in choir and singing at county fairs growing up. I then went on to graduate from Suffolk university with a musical theatre degree. I pursued theater for a short time before giving it up and moving to LA to focus on film acting. It wasn’t until I was here that I realized how much I missed music and what a huge part of my life that was. I quit acting in 2018 and started pursuing my music career. During this time I worked in the industry as a voice over actress, voicing online commercials. I’ve worked with different producers and creatives. Best advice is to find ones you know see you and your artist vision to the fullest. Don’t hold back! Go for what you want and don’t be afraid of it. I’ve wanted to do pop/dance music for a while but was shy and intimidated. I’ve always done pop/r&b and this is a new territory I’m leaning into. But I’m now releasing my first pop/dance track on 7/26 and I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being told no is the most common thing in the music/entertainment industry. I’ve auditioned for the voice 3 times, American idol 2 times and many other short films and voice over gigs. You grow a backbone and sometimes, like my musical theater career it can break you. Moving to a new city across the country was one of the bravest things I’ve done. Everytime I want to give up I remember all I’ve sacrificed to be here and what it truly means to me. I’ll quote sister act 2 as the musical nerd I am “ if you wake up in the morning and all you think about is singing, then you’re a singer girl”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having people who can relate and feel something from my music. If my music helps people get through whatever life is throwing at them like it’s done for me then I’m doing my job right. We are a team my fans/listeners and I. We can get through this together cause If I went through and came out the other side so can you.
