We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Tran. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Being a creative is not rainbow and butterflies all the time. As a matter of fact, we feel the burn-outs majority of the time and need time to reset more than most industries. Often times, I feel ashamed and guilt for not creating or not hoping on the next project. “What can I do more with my time?” is the question I’ve been asking myself lately as this is a slower season and I have a lot of time to tackle ideas that have been on my to-do list. However, I’m feeling quite the mellow energy and giving myself permission to relax and be bored without the guilt. I find it best to do nothing than to do a million of unnecessary tasks just to feel productive.
Of course, I wonder what it’s like to work a corporate job and it seems intimidating and suffocating at the same time. I can’t imagine being told what to do. I wouldn’t know how to work the politics in the office.
I truly feel my best as a creative.
Kim, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got my bachelor’s in Marketing at San Diego State University and I continued to do hair in hopes that it would get my somewhere. Having been in the industry for 7 years, I’m known as the brunette who loves to make everyone lighter. My passion is to connect with others through hair as I specialize in blonding on all hair textures. I always remind my clients to do what’s best for their hair and lifestyle, not the trend that’s “in” at the moment. It creates a timeless look instead of something that’ll go away after a season.
When I’m not doing hair, I’m outside doing corny, tourist things with my loved ones or traveling to a new city to experience different cultures. I’m proud of the life I’ve created for myself by sticking with my passion and believing that it will get me where I need to be. I’ve been able to live life on my own terms, I make my own schedule and I do it by making women beautiful. I’m grateful for what a life I’m living by following and sticking with my passion.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can support the creatives by buying their products through the recommended source and referring the business! Word of mouth is still the most powerful marketing tool.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The reaction of my clients when they see their hair transformation is priceless.
