We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Sorrelle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer and 4 months later my husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away 6 weeks after that. It made me question some things, with this new life, in my forties, and wanting to make sure I was doing life right. The biggest question I had was what is the true meaning of love. So I devoted a year to search for it. Most of the year I spent in Haiti which added a whole layer of uniqueness. I was chased by a motorcycle gang, slept outside with tarantulas, snakes, and chupacabras, but I learned that love is not what we’ve been told it is. And what I learned about love changed my life. I’m now on a mission to help the world understand love and love each other.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my first business when I was 18 years old so I have always been an entrepreneur. I am also the executive director of a non-profit organization. I have a heart, a passion, and a love for people, all people. You don’t hang love up when you get to the office or put it in a drawer when you get home from work. But love is who you are always everywhere. If you understand love and live love you make more money, have better relationships, and a much more enjoyable life. I help people understand the importance of relationships and how relationships need to be authentic and real, consistent and kind.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Absolutely! I have a lot of stories, but one of the more significant ones in my journey was when I had to sleep outside in Haiti where tarantulas roam and snakes slither and chupacabras jump out of bushes. I was scared to death but survived and learned a valuable lesson that changed my life forever.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Yes, there definitely is. I learned that there is a huge gap in understanding between creatives and non-creatives. Too often non-creatives do not see the struggle, the work involved, the late nights, the early mornings, the meals on the go, the hotel rooms, airplanes, airports, all the things we endure as creatives. Non-creatives often see the end product and don’t see the struggle to get there. Especially in your own family. When people are working a 9:00 to 5:00 job for somebody else, it is hard to understand someone who is working longer hours or different hours, traveling for work, and having their picture on posters and billboards. They remember that snotty nose kid that they grew up with and don’t understand why anyone would want to follow them 🙂
