Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kim Sheahan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kim, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Of all things my first career was doing taxes as a CPA. It would surprise you to know how many of those skills actually translate into being a Hypnotherapist.
The most important lesson I learned while being a CPA was to be kind to my future self. This mainly came in the form of doing tasks that would benefit me in the future. For example, in the tax world you always refer back to the last years tax return you prepared while prepping the current year’s return. And you would either love or hate past you.
If I didn’t leave notes about why I did something a particular way, or I didn’t reference where certain numbers came from in the prior year files, then the current me would have to spend a lot more time remembering and figuring out what in the world I’d done, so I could repeat it.
Eventually I built a habit of documenting everything as well as I could, so that future me, or someone else would have an easy time following what I did.
This skill helped me immensely. I was able to not only help myself understand what I did previously, but also could use it as a teaching tool, supporting my work to bosses’ scrutiny, and saving time and energy when I least had excess to spare.
I now find myself doing this in all areas of my life. Around the house, running my business and oddly enough in building trust in myself. Because I know that I usually do something in a particular way it makes it easy for me to guess things I’ve done if I can’t remember it precisely and I can then retrace my steps. This helps me to trust myself and know myself.
I highly recommend building this habit into your life, of doing things for future you. Whether it’s documenting things, habitually doing something the same way, or prepping something the night before for morning you. This skill brings ease and peace into your life in a way you can’t imagine till you experience it.

Kim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist with a wholly virtual practice. I’ve found the most exciting part of helping people with hypnotherapy is watching them develop self-compassion, inner peace and the confidence to make the changes in their lives that they want. Most of my clients have tried a lot of other things like traditional therapy, coaching, and self-help books, but find they aren’t getting the results they want.
They know what to do, they just can’t make themselves do it or still have an inner critic voice tearing them down. And that’s where using the power of the hypnotic state comes in. It opens the doorway to get new ideas into the subconscious mind and make it easier to take action because they now have an inner voice supporting them instead of tearing them down.
My goal as a Hypnotherapist is to act as a guide and hold space for my client to explore and find their way forward. Also, I believe in them and hold that belief in them until they are able to hold it for themselves. When you have someone believing in you deeply from a place of love and acceptance it makes it easier for you to believe it too.
I support women who are several years into their healing journey and still not getting the results they want. I have three primary offerings:
1. One-on-one hypnotherapy and energetic work. Make real, lasting change as you build courage, become a person of action, and receive the wealth and health that is your birthright.
2. Monthly virtual hypnosis experiences for small groups. Discover unexpected ways you may be sabotaging your success and experience a more energetic and complete transformation with hypnosis.
3. Rapid Energetic Healing. This is for women with a high level of awareness and who have made great progress in their healing journey and just need support to keep going and expanding.
I am known for meeting my clients where they’re at emotionally and energetically. Each session is customized to their needs at that moment. Since most of my clients have already tried the one-size-fits-all approach, they appreciate how hypnotherapy with me is designed specifically for them.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The most important lesson I had to unlearn is that there is a right way to run a business.
Every time I turn around there is someone saying “you must do this, to be successful”. In reality, there is no one right way to build your business, especially if you offer a service. It’s about learning who you are and how you do things at your most authentic level. Because people are going to resonate most with you when you’re being you and sharing your excitement about the thing you offer.
I spent two years being coached and told by everyone around me what the right way to do things was. And all that led to burnout, low client levels, a hatred of having my business and a lot of shame. I discovered that it is important to find support from people who help me be the favorite version of myself and do what resonates with me for marketing and business building. Rather than trying to make me a copy of themselves.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Letting go of following a script. With most hypnotherapy training you are given scripts to use with clients. It’s helpful in the beginning because it gave me some framework and a process to use. Eventually you learn most clients are going to need individualized support and sticking to a script is just going to frustrate them.
Hypnotherapy is the most successful for clients when I simply guide to start and then take my cues from them once they’re into the process. Intuition reigns heavily and now my clients get amazing results.
Learning to let go of the script in my client sessions led me to let go of the script in my head of how my life should be and who I had to be. It let me discover who I really was rather than all the conditioning I had internalized. Now I take my cues from my intuition instead of some script in my head of how my life should look according to everyone else.
