We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Setteducati-Mann. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
A customer telling me that they were nervous to try yoga in a studio but that we made them feel comfortable and that they had a positive experience is my favorite success story. Seeing people gain confidence and grow in their practice is such a privilege. It’s so impactful because it’s the very core of who we are and what we offer. We hear far too often that people feel too intimidated to go to a yoga studio, or worse, they went and felt like they didn’t belong. We never want anyone to have that experience and miss out on all that yoga and meditation has to offer.
Kim , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Yoga found me when I was working as a human resources professional. I realized quickly how impactful the practice was for my physical and mental well-being and it became a core part of my life. Years later I felt called to leave the corporate world and pursue my passion of sharing yoga with others. I became a registered yoga teacher and started making plans to open my own yoga studio. In 2021, Piper Moon Yoga officially opened its doors in Youngsville, NC.
At Piper Moon Yoga, we believe yoga, meditation, and mindfulness can help everyone thrive in mind, body, and spirit. We also know that yoga doesn’t have to be intimidating and should never feel inaccessible. We’re passionate about creating a community, environment and experience where everyone feels welcome, supported, and nurtured on their yoga journey.
Our studio offers several styles of yoga, qigong, meditation and sound meditation. We always encourage our students to make the practice their own. There’s never any judgment, only support. If someone has been wanting to try yoga but feels nervous going to a studio, Piper Moon Yoga is the place for them.
Our offerings come from the heart and from a desire to serve our community. Everyone who comes to our studio is treated with respect, kindness and compassion. We’re always thinking about how we can better serve and support our clients.
While we’re proud of our space, Piper Moon Yoga is not just a yoga studio – it’s a community. It’s really the people that make what we do so special, and we are so grateful for them.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Business was very slow when we opened. Most of our classes for the first 2-3 months were canceled because we didn’t have enrollments. When we did have classes, we often only had 1 or 2 participants. It was so discouraging – our expectations were high and honestly a bit unrealistic, but we truly believed in what we were offering and that kept us going. One person at a time, our Piper Moon Yoga community started to grow and is still growing today. It takes time to build something that lasts – be patient, stay true to your vision, and don’t give up.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve given the advice many times that “you can change directions at any time” and this has been the story of my life. I went to school for music – I pivoted and built a successful career in Human Resources. I got tired of HR and pivoted to operations management. I realized I wasn’t going to find fulfillment in the corporate world and pivoted to become a yoga teacher and studio owner.
When you’re a small business, you are continuously pivoting. I’ve tried things that haven’t worked and made mistakes – instead of spending a lot of time and energy on those things or dwelling on the mistakes I’ve made, I pivot and move on.
Every experience, big or small, is part of the journey – I’m grateful for each of them and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
