We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Saucedo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I became a Microblade Permanent Make-up Artist late 2017. I was only doing this for people I knew and people who knew them. I was discouraged thinking I wasn’t good enough, so I never followed through this path and just stuck to my 9-5 job in the accounting field. I wish I would’ve stuck to my passion and didn’t listen to negativity or constantly compared my work. Now here I am 2023 decided to go back to the Brow game!
Kim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kim and I am the owner and Artist at Hella Haute Beauty in Long Beach. I struggled with thin, invisible eyebrows and had to draw them daily, so this was personal to me. I was beyond happy when I got my eyebrows tattooed, from that moment forward I knew that I wanted to impact the lives of others with the same joy and that’s when my passion for eyebrow tattoos began. In 2017 I became a Permanent Make-up Brow Artist doing Microblading, in 2023 I decided to expand my brow techniques and learned Ombre Powder. Fascinated with the industry, I looked into Paramedical tattoos and blown away with idea of camouflaging skin color pigments. I’ve seen people hide behind their clothing and not feel comfortable exposing skin because they have scars or stretch-marks. I wanted to help people feel confident and comfortable in their skin and let them know, “Your scars can be beautiful!”
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
It’s a struggle to draw your eyebrows in every single day and making sure it’s not smeared off when you’re out the house. Saving you the time and headache that it takes to get ready when doing your make up and making sure your eyebrows are even.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Trying to have a work life balance was impossible for me as a Manager for a corporate office. I was spending at least 3 hours in traffic daily to and from work. I was also “on call” with a work phone after hours and I had no weekends completely free, if duty calls, unless I had time requested off and even with vacation time, if I had the work phone with me, I had to work. It was impossible to be there for my kids, and I knew that I had to make a change in my career so I could spend time with my family. Growing up, my parents were workaholics and they never spent time with us, but we were always supported financially. I knew I did not want that same cycle for my kids, I got back into the permanent make-up industry, so I could create my own schedule and follow what I truly enjoyed.
