We recently connected with Kim Prada and have shared our conversation below.
Kim, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I went from being a stay at home mom, to a single mom in 2019. Originally, I was making these tasty power bites as a healthier snacking alternative for myself – until one day I donated a batch to my mother’s church bake sale and the power bites turned out to be a HUGE hit! My mother immediately encouraged me to go into business and I remember ignorantly saying “Mom I need REAL job right now, selling power bites will not solve my situation”.
I started working at a hair salon for a short period of time, and they ended up closing down because of covid! That’s when I re-evaluated my mother’s power bite idea (sorry mom!) and invested into building my own power bite business.
The name ‘TRIBE’ came to me through the connections and endless support I received in 2020 by all of my customers. I went from having no job, no car, no place to stay, no money; to obtaining my own car, apartment and being a business owner full time; all by the end of 2020.
I wanted to give back to those that gave back to me, and decided to name my business TRIBE POWER BITES. :)
Kim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kim Prada and I am 25 years old! Raised in Springfield, MA and a single mother to my beautiful daughter Mia.
Here at TRIBE POWER BITES LLC, we create nut-butter oat based snack bites that are designed to keep you full and focused for your busy every-day schedule! We have a variety of different flavors, including our #fanfavs: ‘WHITE CINN’, ‘DARK FANTASY’ and ‘THE OG’! Our power bites are fully gluten free and we also offer vegan/nut-free options as well.
We LOVE giving back to our community – so each month we choose a local rescue, shelter or place in need to donate a batch of our power bites to; and also enjoy hosting pop up events that people can come and select their own power bites to bring home with them as well!
I grew up in poverty, as my mother was a single mother of 4. We were brought up in shelters, projects and used ebt to support us with groceries. Unfortunately, we had to select the cheapest of food options available when grocery shopping, just to help us stretch our food stamp earnings longer for the month. Meaning, honey buns for breakfast and doritos for snack time.
But good news! Recently, we have partnered up with several local grocery markets local to Western MA that accept ebt – so not only do I get to provide a healthier snacking for everyone; but, I also get to provide them for low income families as well! :)

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Just start. Start the idea, start the dream, start the passion; just start. Nothing has to be perfect, You don’t need to have it altogether. When you’re most afraid, jump. Opportunity is waiting on the other side of your fear!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
In 2020 there was a stimulus check that came out that year. While some folks decided to use that money for a tv, vacationing or other things – I decided to invest in myself and start my business! I had no business background, but I did have a dream I couldn’t stop thinking about! And here we are 3 years later!!
