We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Ownby. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I’ve been in Massage Therapy for the last 16 years, and I had two very close, friends and family become ill with different types of cancers. They were diving into more natural ways to Increase the body’s immune system and chance to fight their cancers. It was devastating to see a friends of mine, both so young and with young families, dealing with the harsh reality of living with cancer.
I wanted to help and knew Massage Therapy could only go so far in their treatments so I was open to researching what other therapies I could possibly learn and help add to their wellness journey. It was then I became aware of what is called Electro or assisted lymphatic therapy with an XP2 machine. that would help target their lymphatic systems.
I was able to get certification nearby and purchase the high tech XP2 machine but before I could begin helping, one of my friends had already passed due to their extremely progressed cancer. I was devastated, but encouraged to press on and help my other friend who was still battling their fight with cancer.
I followed the proper protocols and along with other treatment regimen’s that my client was strict on for their body- they were able to fight the cancer. When it came time to cut the cancer out, his oncologist Dr. stated that with the ELT therapy- we were able to save a lot of his lymph nodes from
becoming cancerous. I was ecstatic though grieving the loss of my other friend to their battle of cancer.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Kim Ownby, Licensed Massage & ELT/ALT Therapist
My name is Kim Ownby. I’m a native to Nashville and have been working as a licensed massage therapist for the past 16 years as well as a lymphatic therapist for the past 3 years. I am happily married to a high school teacher with 4 gorgeous kids and I certainly enjoy helping others find peace and healing in their walks of this crazy, beautiful life. I am a lymphatic enthusiast and am on a mission to help others stay on the preventative side for their health and well being.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
It’s really been face to face communications and even my clients testifying to the work and relief of their symptoms that they have experienced. People really need to feel it to believe that their body is in need of this type of therapy and then I get to educate them in what they need to do at home in order to keep their progression going.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe we all succeed when we believe in what it is that we are doing and offering to the public. I feel a calling in my field of professional massage therapy and lymphatic therapy. I love what I do still 16 years later. So find something you love and own it for yourself so that others see that fire in you.
