We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kim Loesche a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kim, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The festival includes artists of all ages as well as a student artist area. Because it is a juried art show artists are carefully selected based on their talent.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
ARTfest On Main is the brain child of Julie Beall, a long time Springboro resident, Artist and business woman. Her heart for Springboro drives our mission “ The purpose of ARTFest on Main is to promote and enhance the development of the Historic Springboro Business District as a hub of economic, social and cultural activity.” The first year the festival was planned in under 3 months and featured approximately 35 artists. In the five years that we have been a festival, all we have grown exponentially with 9000 attendees in 2022. This year’s Festival features approximately 100 juried artists from all over the country, children’s activities, craft beer, including a special ARTfest Shandy created by our local breweries Crooked Handle and Warped Wing, craft cocktails, as well as live entertainment in a family friendly environment. It takes place down the center of S. Main St., in the charming Historic Springboro. The festival will take place August 26 10a-5pm.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
First and foremost, just attend. Having foot traffic having people talk to the artists having people involved in the community will make this festival thrive, and will benefit the artists. With this festival, we really focus on a wide range of medias as well as price points so there is something for everybody. Remember that this is most of the artist livelihood so even the smallest purchase can go along way. Think about what you might need for your home, your office, upcoming holiday gifts, and see what grabs your attention.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The festival’s mission is to promote and enhance the development of the Historic Springboro Business District as a hub of economic, social and cultural activity. We want to expand the art and culture within our city in conjunction with supporting the small businesses that are a part of the Historic Springboro District
