We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Evans. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
When SpoonMoon first opened its doors in 2020, the world was standing still. Studios were closing. Fear was everywhere. And yet, something inside me said let’s try anyway.
We didn’t launch with fanfare or packed classes, we began with trust. A few bikes. A handful of clients. A whole lot of faith. While the world slowed down, we created a space that reminded people how to move with alchemy of body + soul.
It wasn’t easy. There were masks and mats spread six feet apart and endless pivots. But every challenge revealed what SpoonMoon was truly made of…community. Clients showed up not for perfection, but for peace. They came to breathe again, to connect, to remember their strength when everything else felt uncertain.
Five years later, SpoonMoon stands stronger than ever. What began as a pandemic baby has grown into a thriving studio filled with energy, light, and an unexpectedly perfect client base; college girls finding their footing, professionals chasing balance, and everyone in between who’s ready to rise.
We’ve evolved, expanded, and redefined what community fitness can look like. But our heartbeat hasn’t changed, it’s still about connection, growth, and creating space for those ready to step into their power.
SpoonMoon was never just about classes. It’s about remembering that even in the hardest seasons, you can rise again and shine brighter than before.
Because that’s what we do here. We rise, we rebuild, and we keep moving forward.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
With over two decades of experience in the fitness and wellness industry, I am a passionate and dedicated wellness professional who has helped thousands of individuals transform their lives through physical and mental health. Growing up in St. Louis and graduating from the University of Kansas in 2001, sports and fitness were not a part of my routine. After moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2001 post grad, I began a casual workout routine that became the jumping off point to my future.
As a certified expert in eight different fitness formats and over 10,000 hours of experience leading others, I have a deep understanding of what it takes to achieve holistic well-being. My expertise extends beyond physical fitness to include mindset coaching, women-centered holistic fitness, nutrition, and spirituality.
I am not just a practitioner + trainer, but also an entrepreneur. I am the proud owner of two successful businesses, each of which reflects my passion for wellness. These businesses include a fitness studio and online fitness instructor training programs. Through these ventures, I aim to create positive and transformative spaces for my clients to thrive.
I am a lifelong learner committed to staying at the forefront of industry trends and research. The world of fitness and wellness is ever-evolving, and I continuously update my knowledge and skills to ensure my clients receive the most up-to-date and effective guidance.
As a seasoned fitness and wellness expert with a diverse skill set, a deep commitment to personal growth, I have a passion for helping individuals lead healthier, happier lives. My multi-faceted approach, along with my extensive experience and dedication to lifelong learning, sets me apart as a leader in the field of fitness and wellness.

Have you ever had to pivot?
My planned client base was middle aged women. It’s who I am and what I knew best; however, that is not who was attending fitness studios in 2020. College girls were out, ready to be social, and needing connection. Once I determined this, I learned as much as I could about their behaviors, buying habits, and how to attract them all. Our current membership demographic is 80% students, and while most would disagree with my approach, they have been a blessing and asset to SpoonMoon.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I was initially turned down by 8 banks before securing funding. I had been at home raising my children for 10 years, not much money to contribute, and my concept was seen as a “cute idea.” I kept pursuing it, continued to be declined…until I wasn’t because I knew I had something.
I just went through this SAME process again as we relocated and expanded. 5 banks turned me down this time with financials that clearly showed growth and success patterns. Again, I finally found one to go the distance with me; because all you need is one to believe.
I grow on a limited budget, tight funds, and make it work. We clearly understand our goals and how we’re going to reach them to continue down the path of success.
