Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kim Channey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kim, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Holistic Interior Design is more than just the popular images people scroll through in their social media feeds. Our environments are a direct reflection of our internal feelings and the decision to bring in an interior designer is an intimate one that should be taken with reverence. I have always been sensitive to the environments I am exposed to, what feelings they evoke, what senses the ignite, the energy and the memories that remain from the spaces. When I first started out, I found that I organically designed according to my clients and being able to channel these ideas as a guide on their behalf. It wasn’t until a few years later that I noticed a theme in my client feedback that centered around wellness. It was then that I wanted to dive deeper into curating spaces that support physical, spiritual and mental well-being.
Kim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a Holistic Interior Designer, I prioritize the overall well being of my clients and spend a lot of time understanding their aspirations, lifestyle, health and emotional needs. I find that this approach leads to spaces that promote harmony, balance and enhance well being.
Many times I am called to clients who have a feeling for what they want but are unsure of how to make it happen. I have a comprehensive approach to creating spaces that integrate elements of nature, energy flow optimization, sustainable materials and design choices for emotional and psychological comfort that ultimately enhance overall wellness. I like to say that getting a “pretty room” is just a bi-product. I am a natural empath and feel things deeply. Deciding to work with clients is not a transaction for me but a synergy. I truly love what I do, because it is therapeutic and I get as much joy out of the process as my clients do with the results.
As a holistic interior designer, what I’m most proud of is my ability to create spaces that truly nurture the well-being of my clients on every level – physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. I strive to go beyond the aesthetics and functionality to design environments that support harmony, balance, and holistic wellness. Potential clients can trust that I prioritize their health and happiness above all else, and I’m dedicated to creating spaces that align with their values and promote overall well-being.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Two years into my business the pandemic hit and shook up the world. During that period, I continued to work on projects and saw the opportunity to pivot and make my work more intentional. I used that time to reevaluate the products I was sourcing and find solutions to curate healthier spaces. I also had a client who opened my eyes to environmental and health impacts of products. This was a welcomed challenge, because I learned how difficult it is to ensure that products are not only built well, but free of toxic chemicals that many of our homes are full of. I dug deep to learn about various Sustainability Certifications and made the decision to be more selective about the Manufacturers I would source from. In the end, this fit my natural transition into Holistic Interior Design and I believe sets me apart.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with incredible families who’ve generously referred me to others. Having recently relocated from the Midwest to Texas I’m excited to continue promote the significance of achieving both beautiful and sustainable design. It’s been truly rewarding to discover a growing number of families seeking designers who value wellness-driven approaches. My experience confirms that most individuals prefer intentional design choices. This is why I established my company: to deliver comfortable, livable interiors that nurture the souls of those who dwell within them.
