We were lucky to catch up with Kim Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kim, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Once you identify your passion, commit yourself with taking the necessary steps to fulfill it. Success looks very different for alot of people. I felt successful when (a) I know I worked hard to accomplish the goals I set out to achieve (2) I didn’t go hard on myself because I hit roadblocks and (3) the way I feel when I’m doing or providing what I love to do or am called to do.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kim Brown. I’m was born and raised in Rochester NY. I am the owner and operator of Roc City Notary Services LLC which provides mobile notary services and fingerprinting services at the customers’ location of choice. I’ve been a Notary for 15+ years. I am also a FT HR Director in corporate which I absolutely love. My notary career began 15 years ago while working in senior housing for elderly and disabled populations. I became a licensed notary public and provided free notarizations to 425 residents who didn’t have access to receive the service anywhere else. It was about convenience and onsite access which was a huge need. My training after becoming licensed was purely from actively practicing with resident notorizations. After a couple of years, I decided to mobilize my business. In 2019, I applied for my LLC and added a few other services to my business such as fingerprinting services and notary merchandise and accessories. Fast forward today, I am still proving mobile notary services for my community and beyond, and I also enjoy being a notary signing agent for real estate transactions such as mortgage refinancing. As mentioned, my business is mobile so I will meet you where you are at. Whether that is at a residence, school work or public space. I make it super convenient for my customers. I am open after hours Monday-Friday, on weekends, and even on holidays.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During COVID I had to pivot and cut my workload in half due to safety and personal medical reasons. I had been going hard days leading up to COVID. This caused a decline in my revenue. There was a high demand for notary services during this time mainly due to the low interest rates which at that time, interest many people to refinance their mortgage loans. I had to make a decision between risking my health or playing it safe. I chose the latter and I was just fine.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The most unforgettable story of resilience for me is also during COVID. I mentioned in my bio that I am a HR Director. During that time, I was scared of the unknown just like everyone else. Probably more frightened than everyone believed. But in business, I am a leader first. Everyday while the world was preparing for the unknown, I showed up to lead in bravery and with confidence because the people who I am priveledged to serve counted on me for support. They would ask me, “Are you scared of what’s going on?” “. I said yes but we are going to get through this together and of course, we all did. ,
