We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Anguiano. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Creating on a variety of platforms as a multimedia and abstract artist at first seemed unattainable in it’s demanding variety. It’s typically recommended to narrow down what you want to be “known” for but as an eclectic artist I didn’t want limits on my creative freedom. As a San Antonio native I always hoped that one day I could be appreciated even on a small scale since I often found myself feeling like an outcast because of unpopular content or least trendy and obscure inspiration.
I’m thrilled to say I’m now currently involved hosting and curating a pop up event that I’m calling “Modern Eclipse” located at the Blue Star Arts Complex.
Consecutive appearances in solo and collective art features at Jo Jo Dancer Studio has been another highlight where I also presented my first interactive “Words and Reflections” in his space was a milestone. The opportunity to create installation with photo art at the Oxen Free Collective with other artists with the desire to showcase with these unique platforms was rewarding.
The creative project I’m curating for “Modern Eclipse”is a fusion of not only what’s possible on a canvas but expressionism through conceptual, interactive, visual and performance art in mixed media outlets. My goal is to create a fluid art space that reaches for a unique connection of artists with innovative expression from performance art intervals, video art film sound, fashion in wearable art, interactive art – visual poetry and paintings from an eclectic collective line up.
Art is a treasured language to engage people of every kind, I believe there is something to say through visual art other than just physical objects that you can hold in your hands and hang on your wall.
The interactive art series “Words and Reflections” has been the most meaningful project I’ve worked on so far because it unites guests looking at the inner self as they share a few words they write out on tape responding to variety questions I ask.. It’s refreshing to see the heart among strangers in what looks like synchronized individuality to me as they participate in beautiful unison. It comes together like performance of visual poetry. This exhibition holds most value without a price tag because it is suddenly about “us” not just about me and my exhibition.I hang on to that feeling, I don’t like being all caught up in my head it’s enough, lately I’m finding there is more in harmony making time for adding these shows in the mix.
If you can say anything to the world no matter how big or small… what would you choose to say?
Kim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Other appearances have been at rock show events to visiting kids at Rise high school as an inspirational artist guest.
My trade of styling and dressing ballet dancers and Broadway performers at the Majestic Theatre and Tobin Center has also opened my mind to the appreciation of performance artists and desire to feature intervals inspired by this talent in the future.
As an experimental visual artist I’m also currently exploring photographing photos and video, I know it sounds confusing .
I take photographs of still and moving images through projections on layers of a set design with installation art. I see it and am calling it digital abstraction. The final image looks distorted but it isn’t done in post editing but in layering in the creative set I design that gives an overall organic image.
Content is currently taken from fashion meets art I create as an enthusiast of avant garde hair styles and accessories I design as well.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Sometimes people will try to discredit you because you’re not like them, I’m reminded to hear my spirit louder than distractions .
