We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kilo Angeleno. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kilo below.
Hi Kilo , thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I feel like I’m living my purpose as a creative; that is, fulfilling God’s purpose for me. And that makes me happy. Knowing I’m manifesting my gifts on a daily basis really makes life worth living. Naturally, there are adversities one must confront, but you’re going to face them either path you choose to take. I’ve learned in recent years that you’re going to endure some pain regardless if you choose to fulfill your purpose or you just get a regular job. I’d rather experience the growing pains of doing something that makes you happy. But I can’t deny that I sometimes get the itch to get a “normal” job. For example, I had a turbulent 2024; I had a health scare that took me out the game for approximately 6 months and I couldn’t work. In the depths of desperation I contemplated getting a regular job to get by. But, with a lot of meditation, visualization, and prayer I was able to remind myself of my purpose on this earth and rose like a phoenix.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Kilo, who sings in both English and Spanish, is an Ecuadorian-American singer, songwriter, and entertainer. Born in Los Angeles, Kilo was raised partly in Guayaquil, Ecuador. A natural-born talent, at 8 years old Kilo would begin singing latin romantic ballads in restaurants and cantinas; where he developed his impassioned tone and gentle tenor. He immersed himself in his parents’ vast music collection, which comprised of Julio Jaramillo, Daniel Santos, Leo Dan, Jose Jose, and more. Kilo fell in love with a broad spectrum of Latin music before discovering American hip-hop and R&B in his early teens. He filled his ears with records from Nas and Drake which inspired him to begin spitting bars and even performed alongside the Wu-Tang Clan at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. Propelled by his unique influences, the allure of his ability to showcase his mafioso rap cadence and unhurried R&B coo while upholding the roots of classic latin music is unmatched- proving he has range as a maestro of risqué wordplay and romantic tales. With his smooth-but-rugged demeanor, Kilo is becoming an indispensable voice of seduction in modern urbano for dancers and lovers alike. His songs don’t just blend tradition and futurism, latin and global, but they carry new territory for Latin-American bilingual artists in a hybrid genre all his own.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’ve been making music ever since I can remember. Some would have quit by now. But my journey is personal. I had a calling that this is what I am suppose to do- Share my music with the world. My family is my drive and everything I do is for them. I have a passion for basketball, soccer, wrestling, and more. But, I had to be realistic with myself and really search within for my gift, and that is music. I had to get clear with the difference with a passion and a gift. My mission is to share my gift to the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to travel the world and meet people from all walks of life. I get to connect with all types of people all over the world through my music. The best part about being a creative is that I’m able to bring out an emotion from someone. Whether my music makes them dance, cry, laugh, or feel motivated, the music makes them feel something. At that point my job is done.
