We recently connected with Kiki (Keeks) SheppardSims and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiki (Keeks) , thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Well I been a wrestling fan since I was a child. My mom was a wrestling fan so she use to watch local indy wrestling show that would come on early Saturday mornings. We would watch WCW and WWF or WWE together. Around 2018 I started tweeting a lot during wrestling shows and came across the IWC or Internet Wrestling Community. The lack of representation in wrestling media influenced me to become a podcaster or content creator in wrestling. In 2022 I became part of Public Enemies Podcasting Brand with my own show All Elite Keeks and I cover AEW wrestling. I felt like I could succeed because of my confidence, historical references, and my positive attitude. Covering AEW is not easy, the hours of wrestling I have to consume, the transition of my scheduling, and having to always engage to stay consistent.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am 32 from Dallas Texas, a single mother of 2 daughters. Motherhood is everything to me and it inspires me to keep going. I got into this business by reaching out to the founder of Public Enemies Podcast with an idea of a AEW based content hosted by a woman. There are a lot of talented women in wrestling media, but what separates me from the rest is the wisdom I provide to the audience. I am able to compare the past and present and use insight from history that add relevance to my show. I love that I do have supporters, especially in a male dominate space. On twitter or articles you have at times male journalist reference a lot of my quotes in their articles. It is pretty cool.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to make it easier for the future for women in wrestling content creation. To have my own brand to help and expand black women in wrestling media. When I came in, there wasn’t a figure to help GENIUALLY up and comers or new podcasters. The industry can be sink or swim especially with older figures. My goal is to continue to break the cycle of bullying, theft, discouragement and selfishness. I embrace and protect, so other POC specifically black women are able to have a voice in wrestling media.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Since I represent AEW Content, it’s smart to follow and interact with AEW Fans. I use social media to post clips from my show and I make sure I engage with AEW Fans on social media. It’s also a bonus attending live shows. You want the audience to understand you are All Elite just like them. It may be tribalistic, but everyone is to some degree.
