Kiersten, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?

At this moment I still handle all of our social media accounts. I utilize all forms of social media from Tiktok, and Instagram to Facebook. Being the owner, I have a vision for this company and want it portrayed in a certain way on social media and so far so good! The toughest part about managing our social media is staying up to date on trends and posting frequently. Social media has been one of, if not our biggest driver for revenue. According to our contact forms 75% of our clients are finding us through social media. For anyone who is a business owners curious about social media, you need to immerse yourself into the culture and utilize it for all it is worth.

Kiersten, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Kiersten O’Donnell and I am the owner of Bach Your Service here in Charleston, SC. I got my start in this industry way back in 2017 when I received my bachelors degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. With this degree I went on to work in a creative advertising agency where I grew my skills for planning and organization. It wasn’t until I went on my own bachelorette party a few years later that I thought of the idea to start a business for bachelorette party decorating.

This business supplies incoming bachelorette parties with décor, food and drinks and planning for their weekend in Charleston. Bachelorette parties spend on average 72 hours in Charleston and parties don’t want to waste any of that time food shopping or decorating for the weekend. That is where we come in!

Something that I offer is low prices. Bachelorette (and bachelor) parties are already spending a chunk of money before they even step foot in the city they are visiting. By keeping my prices low and affordable it makes me stick out among the competition.

I am most proud of all the positive feedback I get from clients. It absolutely makes my day when I get tagged in an Instagram post, or a text of how much the bride loved everything. It really helps to reinforce what I am doing is truly helping these bachelorette parties.

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?

In a short answer – yes! Being in the business where technically I am the middle man between the bachelorette party and the where I buy all of the decor, there are bound to be close calls. One example was when I was at a setup and popped the 40 inch “B” in the bride balloons. I expected the group to be so upset because it is a focal point in the bride’s bedroom. The group actually helped me figure out that we could take the “I” and “D” balloon and ring balloon and makeshift an “I Do” sign. While this was not ideal, it was what we had to do. I definitely learned my lesson after this that we need to always carry backups of balloons.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

This business has not been an easy journey. Bach Your Service was first dreamt up of being a part-time gig in the Summer months. After the first Summer season, I quickly realized this was going to be more than a “part-time gig.” Which sounds like a dream for business owners, the only issue is that I am also a full time teacher. Balancing teaching and running a business has truly become a magic show. There have been many a times that I wake up at 6am to teach and go right from school to a bachelorette party set up (or 2) and don’t get home until 8 or 9pm. Luckily I have the help of an amazing employee who is always there to step up when she is needed.
