We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kierra Fleming. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kierra below.
Kierra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Personally, I believe to be successful it is all about the 1. foundation and 2. who you choose to spend time with. For me, my foundation consist of God as the core or umbrella to all the attributes I purposefully have planted for myself. For example confidence is something I must posses to be successful in my field, because how can I expect a client to trust me, believe in me, and have the confidence to go out into the world potentially out of their comfort zone if I myself was not 100% confident in my ability to help bring out the best version of them. Confidence along with assertiveness and compassion and gut instinct are just some of core of my values and success because what am I without my clients? Is my purpose here really being fulfilled if Im not helping create positive experiences for others? Overall as an entrepreneur and image consultant, I have to set an example for my clients that their foundation and core values makes them who they are with our without the clothes, its all from within and how we allow the world to see and use us, so long as we feed what is important to us. As far as the people you spend time with, I do not think people grasp how important it is to have the appropriate village to becoming successful. Their thoughts, actions, ways of support, or ways of doing things can potentially become yours whether they are good or bad. I absolutely believe the old quite that discusses success that states ‘Show me your friends and/or spouse, and I will show you your future.’
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kierra Simone but to my friends and clients I am known as Ke or ‘#TheStyleTherapist. Ive had a passion for fashion since I was a young girl, always watching my mother and grandmother shopping, buying new clothes and thats what initially inspired me to pursue styling. For years and even today I have people stop me in public to compliment my outfits and even my friends make sure to consult me before any major event with their outfits so I decided I should help other people and that is how I got into styling officially.
My grandmother was a school teacher and during the 180 days of school each year, she NEVER repeated an outfit! So safe to say I know where my creative genes come from! Its also no secrete for decades teachers have been underpaid, and in order to maintain her shopping and fashion sense my grandmother became a wiz at mastering the art of sales, sale seasons and the best times to purchase something special. This thought process for my personal shopping services has become a core value of my personal brand. For example, we live in a time where some luxury brand and goods may seem unattainable to the average person and that is where I step in to show with a little hard work, research and patience I can find that same authentic designer bag, dress or shoes for about 30-80% off. To really set myself apart from other stylist i emphasize I want my clients to know they can buy quality high end pieces without breaking the bank to keep up with the Jones’, or they change their style, aesthetic, or identity doesn’t take a fortune.
In tandem to personal shopping, I offer styling services for events such as formal events, baby showers, photoshoots, or parties, to multi-day events such as conference or vacations. We can set a budget and go shopping or we can surf your current closet and see what we can pull together! Closet clean-out and organizing is another services I offer as well, I understand how overwhelming it may feel to have so many options or feelings like you’ve outgrown these options. We will see if you current wardrobe matches your current style, how we can elevate it to get where you want to go, what we have too much of or not enough.
Another service I offer is body shaping and color pallet matching. Have you ever though that something looked so good on the model or stranger and you finally got it, and are underwhelmed when its on you? I think we have all been there! But a lot of people don’t know that body shape, hair color, skin color, eye color, face shape etc. all play into how our clothes make us look but more importantly how they make us feel. This is also a way I try to separate myself from other stylist, I always start with my clients to make sure they understand their shape and colors so we can get the best results and even after we are done working together I want all my clients to have the confidence to go out and shop for themselves and nail it every time because they were set up for success.
My overall goal as a stylist and image consultant is to make men and women 100% confident in who they are walking out into the world, I understand how hard it may be to communicate with people so I let my ‘looks’ do it for me.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Mentors! I believe mentorship is so underrated and wish I would have found a mentor sooner. I believe hearing someone else’s story about how they had to walk through the fire or put out the fire can save a tremendous amount of time, heartbreak, failure, and just set backs overall. I am very much a person who learns from seeing someone else touch the stove thats its hot, or I will always believe someone telling me. So yes, I wish I knew about the importance of mentorship and really listening to those before me much earlier. Mentorship has given me an extra boost and I think everyone should have a mentor no matter how old, young, or how far you are in your career, we can always learn from someone.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect about being an artist is seeing the sign of relief, smiles and most important the confidence boost I think my clients find. I love the fact I feel like my services are not just a one and done kind of thing but I give my clients tools to navigate whats best for them as they move through the different chapters in life and the tools to show up as the best versions they think they can be.
