We were lucky to catch up with Kierra Bush recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kierra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
At 23, I found out I was pregnant and decided to take the biggest leap of my life. I put everything on hold financially to pursue cosmetology school because I had a dream and a plan — and I was determined to finish, no matter what.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a hairstylist who took a leap of faith at just 23 years old. Freshly pregnant and starting over financially, I decided to invest in myself and go to cosmetology school with a dream and a plan I refused to give up on. That risk shaped who I am today — determined, passionate, and committed to making people feel their absolute best.
specialize in natural hair care — e.g., healthy hair care, color, extensions, precision cuts, protective styles, etc.], and what sets me apart is not just the service I provide but the experience. I want every client to leave my chair not only loving their look but feeling seen, cared for, and confident.
The biggest thing I’m proud of is pushing through life’s challenges to build a career that I love and that supports my family. I want people to know that when you sit in my chair, it’s more than hair — it’s transformation, it’s empowerment, and it’s a safe space to just be yourself.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of my biggest battles was with procrastination. For a long time, I would put things off — waiting for the “perfect moment,” doubting myself, or letting fear talk me out of moving forward. But when I decided to go to cosmetology school, especially while being pregnant and young, I didn’t have the luxury of waiting anymore.
I had to unlearn the spirit of procrastination by reminding myself daily why I started. I shifted my mindset from someday to today. I realized that if I kept delaying my dream, I’d never get where I wanted to be. Every small step, even on the hardest days, mattered. It wasn’t about perfection — it was about progress.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started my cosmetology program, I had a group of classmates who all graduated on time — but because of my maternity leave, I fell behind. It was tough watching everyone move forward while I was still there, trying to catch up. But instead of letting that discourage me, I used it as fuel. I reminded myself that my journey didn’t have to look like anyone else’s. I pushed through, stayed committed, and finished strong. That resilience is something I carry with me every day, both in life and behind the chair.
