We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kieran Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kieran below.
Alright, Kieran thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
Wreck League has been a band for three years, with a revolving rotation. Maxwell Souders and Kieran Harris grew up together in Dayton, Ohio, and began playing music together at the age of fifteen. They were in multiple projects together and apart before starting Wreck League. After two years in 2021, Wreck League was offered a record deal with Invention City Records in Dayton, Ohio. The contract lasted a year and a half, where the band recorded their debut album “Break of Time”. As of spring 2023, Wreck League has been self recording their second album which is set to come out this fall. The album was recorded in northern Michigan, where the band spent a week together in a remote cabin. The band just released the first single from the upcoming album titled “From the Bone”.
Kieran, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Maxwell Souders and Kieran Harris have been best friends since they were five years old, and spent their entire childhood together. Growing up, both individuals were heavily invested in music, and began playing music together during their teenage years. They began writing their own music at age fifteen, and they knew music was their passion. The two have been playing on and off together ever since, and they are now pursuing Wreck League, playing around Ohio and New York. Maxwell and Kieran have played with multiple musicians in Wreck League between 2020-2023 before finding Ethan Protsman (rhythm guitar) and Isaac Roe (drummer). Both Ethan and Isaac have been friends with Kieran and Maxwell for years, and played shows together in the past with other musical projects. The chemistry between the four members is unparalleled, and the stage presence brought to each show is electric. The band is most proud of their work ethic and their friendships. Wreck League practices day and night to bring the best performances possible to each show. When the band is not playing and practicing, the members spend time together and enjoy traveling and hiking.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is playing music for the world, and impacting others. If music we write makes someone feel something, the feeling is unmatched. Growing up, our music idols would make us feel joy, anger, sadness, laughter, and every emotion in between from their music, and that is what we aim to gift to others. If our music can make a young individual want to play music the way we wanted to when we were young listening to bands, that is the ultimate reward.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best thing society can do to support creatives in their cities is by going to events and shows! Support your local artists and tell friends and family about them. Creatives gain exposure from their communities support, and would be nowhere without them. So go to shows, go to markets, listen to local music, go to events and support your communities artists!
