We were lucky to catch up with Kierah Blythe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kierah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Starting out in 2020 in the midst of the confusing pandemic I decided to do my my own research on the qualities and attributes of film photography. I researched different types of cameras and film stocks but for the most part I decided to trust my gut and wing out. Trusting myself was the best thing I decided to do because it eliminates the technicalities. After a few blank rolls I started to put the pieces together on the puzzle.
Kierah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a 22 year old film photographer based out of Metro Atlanta. I shoot mostly 35mm film and help clients design sets , plan storyboards, and style wardrobe to bring their visions to life. I am most proud of the confidence I have while shooting because I don’t focus on flaws , I focus on the moment & that’s important for timeless images.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that there is no limit. The sky is not the limit , you can go above and beyond with everything you do and own it because it’s yours and you created it from scratch. I enjoy this because each day I can go out and create different and feel a sense of purpose because I was able to express myself and share my creativity.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Since the beginning of time the worlds history has been captured with images that told a story. I want to be able to continue on and be apart of the world’s history by telling stories by the way of film. Film captures the moments in time with accuracy and no edits or alterations. Just realness. One day I hope to join the looks of National Geographic and challenge myself to capture what’s happening around us to spread awareness.
