Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kiera Price. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kiera, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
It takes a knowing, a confidence, and purposeful actions to be successful in anything that you do.
Because success is the accomplishment of one’s goals, then we can all agree that success starts from within. What do you believe about yourself, what do you have faith in, what are you hoping for, and what efforts are you putting in? These are the very things that develop success. What matters most in achieving success is the greater purpose beyond what you do which ultimately has a greater impact beyond just you!
On my journey to who I am today as a videographer and photographer, began with knowing this was in me to do. As a 30-year-old woman three decades old, it all started long ago as a child with a unique perspective. Something I did as a child and still do now is look at things from a 3rd person’s perspective. It’s like becoming the camera from a movie scene, watching what’s happening from outside your point of view. I would pan my eyes across a room as if my eyes were a camera lens changing focus on what’s in the foreground and background. It wasn’t until I was in my 20s that I realized what I was doing. I didn’t know the significance of this action would lead me to develop a good eye for capturing shots behind a camera. I didn’t know that 11-year-old me playing with the VHS camera from my Grandma Ellen with my siblings would be something I would be doing as a career later in life. However, this was the start of my knowing.
Years later I developed my confidence. It developed when I was 15/16 years old through a decision that needed to be made and a simple conversation. I was faced with choosing the program I was to attend for my 11th and 12th-grade years of high school at Eastland Career & Technical School. This was a big decision because it was going to set me up for success on my career path. Electronic engineering, computer programming and software development, and information technology (i.t.) were some of the career paths I was considering, and I was lost on what career path I should take. I asked God about what program I should go for and instantly I heard a specific number in my mind. I was surprised to get an answer so quickly that I hesitated to respond. It was like he was waiting for me to ask. I slowly flipped to the page in the booklet of all the programs the school offered, and there it was: interactive media (a combination of learning all aspects of media such as animation, 3D modeling, audio editing, graphic design, green screen effects, film production, photography, and web design). This is where my confidence was birthed and still anchors me today in my journey as a videographer and photographer.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Kiera Price born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. I am a kindhearted positive young woman who loves adventures, traveling, nature, dancing, musical instruments, rollercoasters, family, and the Lord, Jesus Christ. I grew up with family always being a core part of my life. My parents were married young, 17 and 21 years old, and my grandparents, including my great-grandmother, have always been in the picture as far as my memory serves. I have 4 siblings, one brother who’s the oldest, and 3 sisters. I am child number 4 of the 5, having only one little sister. Growing up, my sisters, cousins, and friends would make videos for fun. In fact, some of these old videos are still posted on my Facebook. I started with a VHS camcorder to a Flip Video and now the main camera I use is a Canon C100 Mark II.
I come from a Christ-centered background which shapes who I am today and how I work. What sets me apart from others who do the same thing as me within this industry is purpose. Everyone’s why is different. My why is because God led me here. I’ve had plenty of moments when I wanted to be done with it all and yet I am still here at it! When it’s purposeful for you to carry out something, all you need is a spark to rekindle the fire of passion in you to keep going. When your work is guided by purpose, it fuels your willpower and commitment.
The most thing I’m proud of is God leading me through this journey. I have been able to be a videographer and photographer not just locally but also globally. I have been in places I never knew I would be such as overseas in Southeast Asia Indonesia (in different parts of North Sumatra, Siborongborong, and Bali), China Taipei, Taiwan, and even Central America in Costa Rica. Even the cameras I own today happen divinely where I paid zero dollars and zero tax or a third of the amount. I had financial support from the start from my parents, Leah and Norman Price, and others along the way including Grandpa Butchie, Grandma Ellen, my big sis, Pastor Franklin Culver, Pastor and Uncle Johnny Amos, Pastor Derek, and Shatisha Williams to name a few. I can’t forget the emotional support that lifted me from family and dear friends! Shout out to Victoria and Mone’t! These are two I wouldn’t feel right to NOT mention! I will never forget how I was the chosen candidate to win $500 in April 2018, from Dream with Dreamers by Aaron Hollingsworth while preparing for my first mission trip. God has and will continue to walk with me in this. I am forever grateful to all of you who have helped me in some way or another.
Regardless of my education, experience, and appearance, what matters most, may not be seen on the surface….
I am destined for this.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Personality matters in this industry BIG TIME. Chemistry with clients and other creatives serves me well being a person who naturally genuinely cares. I will do what I can to commit and execute a job well done, even if that means staying up all day and night, going the extra mile to complete and perfect a project (which I have done many times). Also, good chemistry creates a ripple effect to building a good word of mouth by recommending me to others. I’ve been video recording dating back with VHS tapes, editing during Windows Movie Maker days til now, and people respect my experience and expertise.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Growing up, I desired to be a creative human being and I became just that. The most rewarding aspect of being creative is being able to use so many different factors such as experiences, morals, beliefs, inspirations, concepts, ideas, and design elements to create an overall masterpiece designed/created by you. Creating is really a cool and unique process that comes through you and out of you and regardless of the outcome, you did it. That’s what is most rewarding to me.
