We were lucky to catch up with Kiera Jesslyn recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kiera, appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
The lines of industry standard are honestly quite blurred in the photography world.
Conventionally there is usually some stress, anxiety and pressure that exists around a photography session. The images can take weeks upon weeks to get returned, along with many other things that regularly occur in the industry.
I fundamentally have my business structure set up to excel clients expectations and streamline the creative flow in order to do so.
My priority is client care; meaning I want the shoot to be fun. It doesn’t have to be too structured, too serious, and stressful. The experience itself should be transforming. As well as the return time of the images is an important factor.
Getting the images returned to the client within a week is pivotal to me. I think it’s imperative to get the galleries out while the client is still relevant to the experience.
To do this, I have cultivated a very unique workflow and stay committed to the deadlines I set and the amount of shoots I accept.
Absolutely every single client feedback that I receive about my turn over time is that it’s the biggest perk.
Kiera, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Early on I set out to change the photography game; no more waiting weeks upon weeks to receive your gallery, no more stuffy awkward shoots, and no more images you’re not happy with. That’s why its called #theELITEexperience !
If I have a camera in my hands, I’m happy. My travels take me all over Alberta, British Colombia, and to many more international destinations. I’m honored to have the opportunity to capture and showcase unique and captivating images of people, brands, and moments.
Photography is empowering; and in my opinion it is the best gift you can give someone. I love watching clients eyes light up when they see a beautiful image of themselves, art and emotion is always captured and expressed in creative ways through my imagery. My style is unique, and I love building ideas and having fun with my clients.
Photography is how I tell my story. Your shoot with me will be educational and extremely creative. It’s about the experience that comes with it; impactful positivity. The empowerment, the confidence, & the ferocity of your images as a constant reminder that you are unique.
I always go the extra mile for my clients to ensure we capture the perfect shot. I work from a multitude of angles, and am extremely directive and creative during the shoot. I love working with all levels of skill including new models! Which is why I created my posing guide for anyone who may be nervous about the shoot. REMEMBER! We are here to have fun; its not only about the images captured, it is about the experience as well!
Everything I have cultivated in regards to Elite Ambitions Photography is to be explosive and magnetic.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an online presence is nothing short of exhausting. On top of fighting community guidelines, and changed rules and statues of social media pages, there’s also algorithms to follow, limitations on posts, limitations on messages, and everything else to follow . Targeted ads are typically a nightmare, and cost a fortune if you’re doing it wrong.
The easiest and best solution I found to building an online presence was letting my work speak for itself.
I didn’t have to shove it down anyone’s throat. When I deliver photos to clients, and they start posting and tagging; that’s all it takes.
Be confident. Have your presence online and let your work and art speak for itself. Those who support you will share it and engage with it. It will happen organically.
It is also good to be on more than one platform a.k.a. don’t have your eggs in one basket. Not only will you find my business on Facebook, Instagram, tick-tock, but I’ve also branched out and started a YouTube channel as well.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients essential correlates to my work being posted on others social media accounts.
It’s one huge ripple effect; “wow who did your photos I need to shoot with them” and boom, I have a new message about a shoot inquiry.
Or if someone sees a person that I hand trained excelling in their photography career, BOOM I now I have a trainee inquiry.
Keep momentum by maintaining consistent quality.
