We recently connected with Kiera Jamison and have shared our conversation below.
Kiera , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I mostly learned photography by practicing and playing with my camera and also I attended U of H photography and digital media program which taught me a lot about conceptual work. When it comes to the business aspect it really is a trail and error game. I personally wouldn’t have done anything to speed up the learning process I was exactly where I was supposed to be at the time I was supposed to be in it. The most essential tool I have learned is lighting ,lighting is so important that’ is what makes the image. Overthinking is an obstacle that very much so stood in my way .when I first got started it was always that question of am I doing this right? am I good enough? but once I got out of my head and stopped over thinking I allowed myself to free flow and everything started to align

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Kiera Jamison I am a Houston-based photographer and digital media artist. I got into the industry through a friend who actually needed a photographer to shoot her brand so from there I have been traveling shooting content for love her retreats. I also do graphic design work. within my photography business I offer a range of services portraits, brand photography, lifestyle photography also travel photography. I like to get to know my client before I shoot them so usually I’ll invite them for tea or a video call, just so we can talk about what they want to capture, what I see in my vision and how we can make magic from that.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is just allowing my inner child to be free I’m a very spiritual being so creativity is like meditation for me. When I’m able to create work that makes other people feel good that really does something to me in the inside as cliché as a sound it truly is a dope experience.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source for new clientele for me lately has been word of mouth. I am So grateful for my past clients who has mentioned me to new clients and friends of friends
